Botox risks are on the rise from under-trained practitioners carrying out treatments, the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS) has found.
The increasing reports of unqualified providers, inappropriate treatment environments and incidents of remote prescribing have concerned healthcare professionals in the cosmetic treatments sector, who have now called for the clampdown of ‘Botox Cowboys’.
To combat the ‘Cowboys’ the IHAS have founded the Register of Injectable Cosmetic Providers Quality Assurance Mark with the ‘Treatments You Can Trust’ list, where you can find practitioners, organisations and facilities qualified to administer injectable cosmetic treatments.
Gill Grozier, Marketing Manager at sk:n, who is backing the ‘Treatment You Can Trust’ list, said: “We were one of the first network of clinics to join the Treatments You Can Trust register and fully support what the government are trying to achieve with it.
“We hope that in time everyone who is considering having Botox or other injectable cosmetic treatments will consult the list for a reputable clinic before proceeding.”
Among those associated with the risk, are beauty therapists and hairdressers who are being allowed to inject the drugs with as little as a day’s training and no experience in the field. Most of the risks involved can be avoided when the drug is administered by an experienced and well trained professional.
All Botox clients at sk:n must have an initial free consultation with one of sk:n's doctors before any treatment is carried out. The experienced medical team is made up of some of the most skilled dermatologists, plastic surgeons and registered nurses in the UK.
sk:n will not administer Botox to people under the age of 25 unless clinically indicated.
