YAZOO RFU Tag Rugby Ambassador MarkCueto

Last night, a children’s tag rugby team from North Ribblesdale RUFC were surprised by a coaching session with England and Sale Sharks Wing, Mark Cueto. The club won a competition in Rugby World magazine for the rugby player, who is the RFU YAZOO Tag Rugby Ambassador, to visit the children and pass on some of the skills that have got him to the top of his game.

Mark Cueto, RFU YAZOO Tag Rugby Ambassador, commented:

“I’m extremely impressed with the children who took part in the coaching session they played to a really high standard and got fully involved. It’s great to see so many kids enjoying the experience that the coaches from the RFU YAZOO Primary School Programme put on for them and I’m sure I met some future England rugby stars today.”

Philip Pawson, Assistant Club Treasurer, who entered North Ribblesdale RUFC into the competition, commented: “The training session with Mark turned into a fantastic afternoon, giving the children a real opportunity to learn from the best. We entered the competition to set the children on the right path at the start of the new tag season. Mark and RFU Tag Rugby coaches were great today and encouraged the kids to further their rugby skills, enjoy themselves and continue to play rugby.”

The RFU runs a far reaching community tag rugby programme across the whole of England in conjunction with YAZOO and The Child Victims of Crime (CVOC) to encourage the nation’s children to participate in sport, pursue healthier lifestyles and through the ‘tackle safety’ programme, prevent them becoming victims of crime. With over 25,000 training sessions being delivered each year in schools, the winning teams from each regional event will then play at the ‘Tag 2 Twickenham’ Final at the birthplace of rugby, Rugby School.

The winning team and the runners from the ‘Tag 2 Twickenham’ Final will then have the chance to play against each other before an Investec Internationals fixture.

Since YAZOO got involved in the Tag Rugby programme four years ago over 1,500,000 primary school children in the UK have been introduced to tag rugby through the 50 YAZOO sponsored regional festivals. During this time the RFU and YAZOO have donated thousands of balls, tag belts and other equipment to primary schools across the country. To find out more please visit or
