Interact, a leading supplier of intelligent intranet software, has announced the availability of Interact Intranet Version 4.7. Highlights from the latest release include new @tagging and #tagging features making it much easier to quickly and easily link content and increase content findability.

The @tagging feature extends the benefits of Interact Intranet’s ’Clever linker‘ tool, which was released earlier this year to provide a quick and easy method for content authors to link to other content within Interact Intranet including documents, events and people. Typing ‘@’ before any word launches a dynamic instant search for content within the intranet making it even easier to create internal links with no need for a complicated interface. This innovative collaboration feature enhances intranet content and increases user engagement.

The #tagging feature gives intranet content authors and commenters the ability to add keywords to almost any searchable content such as blogs, discussion boards and individual user comments, thus creating greater context. #tags automatically appear as a hyperlink to information relating to the #tag and are ranked higher in search results than conventional word searches.

Simon Dance, Global Product Manager at Interact, believes that this feature will benefit intranet users in a number of ways “Popularised by Twitter, #tagging is a very effective way of aggregating relevant content together. Also included in the release is a new Shared Folder Search. This integrates with Microsoft Indexing Services and Microsoft Windows Search Services and enables users to search multiple repositories using a single search interface within Interact Intranet. Users can very quickly and easily search for both the ‘Title’ and ‘Content’ of centrally held files such as PDF's, Word, Excel, and Visio documents.

In addition, a revision to the Active Directory Sync Tool provides better support for enterprise level customers making it more effective and user friendly. Recent work with clients such as Romec, Admiral and ADT resulted in the development of this enhanced tool that allows synchronisation and updating of user details from Active Directory straight to the intranet. It will work with multiple domains and will synchronise locations, company membership details and detailed information which has been stored on the Active Directory.

Other noteworthy enhancements to the software include:

• Games Ladder Widget: This easy to use new widget allows employees to challenge one another to any game such as baseball, soccer, squash or tennis, darts or pool and be able to record the results on the intranet. The Games Ladder widget adds an element of fun to the intranet which helps increases intranet usage and boosts employee morale.

• Interact Document Importer: A desktop application which offers users a quick and simple way to mass-import documents to the intranet in an efficient manner. This application dramatically reduces the workload of IT and Comms teams. This is a great tool for large organisations with vast quantities of information or companies that are launching their intranet for the first time and want an effective way of migrating content from their previous solution. Importantly, the Interact Document Importer enables companies to update documents that already exist on their intranet. This can be particularly useful if an organisation is going through a rebranding exercise and needs to amend all documents with corporate branding and can dramatically reduce the workload of IT and Comms teams.
