With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, love is in the air. But what type of romantic are we Brits?

According to a recent survey* conducted by villa rental specialists Owners Direct, British holidaymakers are torn between packing seductive nightwear... or their own brand of teabags.

But when it comes to romantic destinations, we want nothing but the best, it seems. A wet weekend in Scunthorpe simply wouldn’t do – it has to be somewhere romantic like Paris or Rome.

And proposing on a romantic break? Don’t do it... unless you are a risk taker – only 50% of those surveyed admitted to saying yes!
British holiday makers seem to fall into three distinct types, according to the survey: Which one do you fall into?

The Tetley type
You leave out that the sexy underwear, the city guide and even the camera to make way for your comfy slippers, teddy, photo of you with Jeremy Clarkson and torch for bedtime reading (and in case of power failures of course).

You pack with meticulous precision, sticking a list of suitcase contents in the lid to ensure that none of your prized possessions get left behind.

Whilst many people do take a break for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, it seems many Brits are creatures of habit and wherever we are in the world we want our little luxuries with us. Our own teabags, books, iPod, scented candles and photos of our nearest and dearest are all things we pack.

Perfect for Tetley types: This modern property in Vienna has a well equipped American kitchen with everything you need to whip up a gourmet meal.

The 00-Heaven
You’re a man (or woman) on a mission – romance is your thing and you want to tell the world.

A romantic getaway is about finding a little love nest and not leaving it for the entire weekend.

Flowers – roses of course, to decorate the bed, champagne on ice, chocolates by the box full….

And of course you’ll be packing your Chanel No. 5, some seductive nightwear... and not much else.

55% of those in the survey said luxurious accommodation was the most important aspect of a romantic break and 38% of said the most important thing to pack would be lingerie or special clothes for going out.

For the true romantics: gaze at the views as well as into each other’s eyes on the balcony of this stunning apartment in Lake Como, Italy.

The organised Adonis
For you, true romance is about planning. If it’s champagne, it’s at the top of the Eiffel Tower, at night, after a tour around the city by horse and carriage, stopping off at the famous landmarks, taking in the sights, and capturing the special memories on camera.

With a proposal up your sleeve, you’re going to make this a truly memorable moment – no expense spared – but be careful, apparently only 50% of those asked the big question on a romantic break said yes!

Your case is crammed with city guides, comfy walking shoes and of course, your camera.

30% said it was important to be near to the sights but surprisingly, just 7% of those surveyed said their camera was the most important item to pack for a romantic break.

Remember to make a little time for relaxing, after all it is a holiday – 73% of those surveyed voted a weekend break the most romantic treat from a partner. Arranging some cleaning isn’t as romantic asyou may think only 2% voted for coming home to find the house had been cleaned!

Make it a night to remember at this Paris apartment with champagne and views of the Eiffel Tower.
