Award-winning online comparator sees February half term bookings rise by 8% as Brits ignore the recession

9 February 2011 – Cutbacks from the Government and rises in Air Passenger Duty haven't stopped UK travellers jetting off to warmer climates this half term. Carrentals.co.uk, the leading car hire comparator, found an 8% rise in long haul destination bookings during February's holidays.

The results show that there has been a year on year increase from 2010, for long haul holidays over the February half term. Some of the most popular locations people from the UK have been jetting off to include Sydney, Cape Town, Jamaica, Los Angeles and Auckland.

Carrentals.co.uk Managing Director and spokesperson, Gareth Robinson, commented on the findings, “After 12 months of interesting times for the travel industry, many businesses have been offering excellent holiday deals to bring in the numbers and more customers have decided to take advantage of the situation.

“With the UK having seen some extreme weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures, many people have decided to leave for sunnier locations for an extended stay, particularly because of the fantastic deals that have been on offer. There are still many southern Spain, Canary Islands and Portugal holidays being booked, but there has been a sharp rise in destinations further afield including the USA, South Africa and Mexico.”

As well as trips away in the sunshine, Carrentals.co.uk has seen a spike in demand for ski car hire, with Salzburg, Geneva and Munich all having a 30% rise on last year's bookings over half term.

“The best deals for hiring a car abroad are found when you book early. That way you have a healthy choice of what car to choose from”, adds Gareth. “If you are visiting a busy area and there are no cars available at the airport, remember to try the downtown location as they are usually quieter and have more of a range of cars to choose from.”

Car hire at Orlando Airport begins at just £13* per day for a week over the half term period, from £12* per day at Cape Town Airport, from £9* per day at Malaga Airport, from £11* per day at Abu Dhabi Airport, and from £19* per day at Salzburg Airport.

Carrentals.co.uk is the leading comparison site in the UK for car hire and compares deals from major companies including Sixt, Alamo, Holiday Autos, Auto Europe and Budget. To find out the best deals for car hire this half term visit www.carrentals.co.uk
