The A1-based solution removes the need for vehicles or drivers to return to depots or offices to access static card readers or vehicle IDEs.

(Espoo, Finland / 3 March 2011) Aplicom, a European pioneer in professional vehicle telematics and fleet management equipment, is introducing a new full-service management package for digital tachograph data. The all-in-one solution, based on Aplicom’s proven A1 MAX-RDL telematics black box and supporting all major digital tachograph manufacturers’ models, is being launched Europe-wide.

Aplicom’s latest offering is the first to provide an in-vehicle capability for the remote download and subsequent management of both legally required tachograph data and additional vehicle and driver information. Both first and latest generation digital tachographs are supported, the encrypted driver data being sent from the vehicle over GPRS. Aplicom supports its tachograph and telematics solutions through service provider partners, which implement the delivery to vehicle operators.

“Aplicom technology delivers substantial benefits in operational flexibility and economic efficiency,” says Vesa Helkkula, Managing Director of Aplicom. “The A1-based solution removes the need for vehicles or drivers to return to depots or offices to access static card readers or vehicle IDEs.”

“In addition to providing remotely the tachograph data information required by law other fleet management and positioning services can be operated with the same vehicle computer.,” he continues. “We believe these benefits will be very attractive to service providers as they can provide all wireless services with the same Aplicom products.”

Aplicom introduced the A1 product family in 2007 and has committed to continuous product development since, expanding capabilities by adding new functions and services to offer system and service providers a cost efficient hardware platform for various customer segments and budget requirements. With Aplicom’s new comprehensive solution they can provide their customers a professional data and fleet management services by integrated mobile applications.

The latest web-based solution complies with legal requirements (EU-regulation 561/2006 and working hour directive 2002-15) for storing and monitoring driver card data and tachograph data and so can replace conventional data downloads at a PC. By reading digital tachograph data remotely there is no longer a time-consuming download process in a vehicle or at an office. This improves dispatchers’ efficiency and transparency, as working hour violations and related fees can be prevented while tasks can be approved and invoiced according to real-time information of driving and working hours.

In addition to official digital tachograph data, the same A1 MAX-RDL unit can be used for fleet telematics services by providing vehicle data, for example on its positioning, speed, mileage, CAN/FMS and others.
