Low interest rates, above target inflation and tax and benefit changes are seeing higher tax payers turning to discount voucher sites to make their money go further

Money saving vouchers are no longer the realm of the less well off according to independent discount site DiscountVouchers.co.uk, which says that the number of ABC1 visitors to its site has hit an all time high – 61% of its two million-plus visitors in the last month were from the top income groups.

The findings come as the latest research undertaken for the BBC* found that the real income after tax of the median household in the UK will be 1.6 per cent lower in 2011 than it was in 2008 - a loss of around £365, but for higher tax payers they will be around 3.8% (£2230) worse off due to lost benefits, higher taxes and lower interest on financial assets.

Simon Terry, director of DiscountVouchers.co.uk, says: “Money saving vouchers have been traditionally viewed as popular with lower income groups, but with the Government changes on tax and benefits, low interest rates and rising prices the savvy rich are increasingly taking advantage of the discounts on offer, and why not?

“Many households, across the social spectrum, are losing a significant proportion of their annual income, and using the deals on offer can make a very real difference to their monthly outgoings. A growing number of retailers, including restaurants and travel companies, now offer discount codes, so it makes increasing economic sense to save where and when you can no matter your income level.”

Big brand names such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco, House of Fraser, Lastminute.com, Pizza Express and Boden regularly offer discounts ranging from 10% off to 50%+ sales, enabling households to save on everything from groceries to children’s clothes, meals out and cinema trips.

DiscountVouchers.co.uk is one of the UK’s leading money saving websites. Every day it features over 4,000 live deals on its site from over 800 different retailers, with a growing range of exclusive offers.
