D-Media Network is hosting a conference at BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Piccadilly, London on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th March, 2011. Ed Vaizey, Culture Minister is a keynote speaker at the two day conference, which includes a range of invited speakers from the digital media world speaking on the theme ‘how to generate an income’. D-Media Network is a global member’s network of digital media companies. The network is actively stimulating international growth, facilitating access to innovation and new research opportunities and assisting with access to investment finance from around the world. D-Media is a new commercial operation set up by the team that formerly ran the highly successful SEMN, South East Media Network, a government funded organisation set up by SEEDA, South East of England Development Agency.
The packed programme of industry speakers from all sectors of the digital media will include producers such as, Matthew Bird (award winning TV drama producer; ‘Bedlam’, ‘Worried About a Boy’), Anne Brogan (Kindle Entertainment, working with BBC on ‘Some Dogs Bite’), Dominic Minns, (BAFTA winning project ZingZillas) Pouline Middleton, (famous blogger, ‘One Woman, Three Men’) and Pippa Cross (BAFTA winning film producer), plus other industry heavyweights from distribution and development, and experts in finding funding.
On the second day Ed Vaizey will be providing the keynote with other Government speakers discussing funding, and working with development organisations overseas. The conference includes an exhibition demonstrating the latest in digital media, development technology and platforms. The winners of the five shortlisted individuals for the D-Media Chrysalis 2011 awards ‘Demonstrating emerging talent in digital media’ will also be announced at the Awards Dinner, being held on the evening of 29th March.
SEMN was founded in 2005, and although it has worked with members based primarily in the South East - digital technology companies, the games developer community, internet design and e learning companies and Pinewood Studios - many of the projects have global reach. D-Media Network has been established to continue this important work on an international basis.
Colin Brown, British Film Commissioner, UK Film Council said ‘SEMN and SEEDA have supported Screen South and the Screen South Film Commission in delivering over £100 million of film production spend in the region helping us to support many jobs and key skills. This work really makes a difference to maintaining the UK's position as a global centre of excellence for film and TV production.'
Gina Fegan, CEO of D-Media-Network (and formerly of SEMN) said; “D-Media Network has been set up to continue the invaluable service provided by SEMN. We have established a successful media network not only for creatives and technologists, but also an association with industry agencies and trade organisations.
“D-Media Network enables the cross-fertilisation of ideas and innovations, from trans-media producers, virtual world creators, computer games and app developers, digital filmmakers, online and social media webcasters, online advertisers and e-publishers with the platform, network infrastructure and digital tool development community.
“We plan to build on and extend those successful relationships built by SEMN through D Media Network to benefit our members with a valuable resource that provides information and opportunities to share ideas and network on the latest innovations in an ever changing industry.”
The conference is being hosted in association with Onedigital, the UK digital media network including Bristol Media, Manchester Digital and Wired Sussex; TIGA, (trade association representing the UK games industry www.tiga.org); Intellect, representing the UK technology industry (www.intellectuk.com; the IC Tomorrow Platform (www.innovateuk.org); UK Trade and Invest (www.ukti.gov.uk) and SEEDA.
