It’s a small step to engaging with parents and carers in Blackboys, Uckfield and the surrounding villages and playing our part in village life

A rural pre-school in Sussex is opening its doors to parents in the community with a coffee morning and Open Day to celebrate Mother's Day.

The free event, hosted by Blackboys Pre-School near Uckfield from 9.30am – 11.30am on Thursday 31 March at Blackboys Village Hall, is an opportunity for mothers, fathers and carers of pre-school age children, to come together in an informal setting to celebrate the valuable job they do over a drink and a slice of homemade cake.

At the same time, visitors will be able to see for themselves the wonderful work Blackboys Pre-School does to provide a nurturing environment for children aged between two and five years old in a rural setting.

At a time when rural communities are fast becoming a thing of the past, the pre-school recognises the importance of engaging with the community at large. With the demise of the village high street, the pre-school plays an invaluable role in maintaining a vibrant rural community.

Jenny Novkovic, Pre-School Manager, says: “Events of this nature are so important. It’s a small step to engaging with parents and carers in Blackboys, Uckfield and the surrounding villages and playing our part in village life.“

“Our Pre-School is not just about providing great early years education; there’s also a great sense of community among the parents and carers of children who attend. It’s an opportunity to socialise with others living locally and for children to make friends, particularly those preparing to start school at Blackboys C of E Primary School down the road,” adds Mikyla Elsey, chairman of the parent led Pre-School committee.

Staff and members of the committee will be on hand at the Open Day. Information is also available on the Pre-School’s recently revamped website at www.blackboyspreschool.org.uk.

Rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, the not-for-profit pre-school was set up nearly thirty years ago. It is one of just a handful of pre-schools in the area whose objective is entirely focused on providing quality education for two to five year olds in East Sussex and not about bottom line profits. This makes Blackboys Pre-School a great choice for childcare and pre school education in Uckfield, Heathfield and surrounding villages. We accept new children at any point during the year if there is availability.
