This year’s extended Easter break will mean that travellers will suffer higher prices than normal says independent car rental comparison website

31 March 2011 – This year, Easter and the Royal Wedding will mean that Britons will benefit from four bank holidays in only 11 days, and independent car hire comparison website Carrentals.co.uk is suggesting that travellers book in advance so that they can minimise the effects of the rising prices.

The company has reported that many popular Easter locations like Malaga, Alicante, and Geneva have seen steady price rises during the last 12 weeks, as demand rises and Britons plan to take advantage of the additional holiday over an extended break.

Examples include, rising prices for seven days economy car rental at Faro Airport, up by more than 90% with a number of car hire suppliers during the last three weeks, while prices for car hire in Geneva have gone up by 60%.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “People are starting to realise as the Royal Wedding approaches, that by taking just three days off work, it is possible to get an 11 day break from work. This has meant that demand has risen for hire cars in the UK and overseas as employees take advantage of the bank holidays, resulting in price hikes..

“The company advises anyone planning to go away to book car hire straight away to avoid high prices or limited availability of the right car.”
