Wayne Rooney reckons it won’t be long before his ‘genius’ teammate Ryan Giggs becomes Sir Ryan, following his part in the demolition of Champions League rivals, Chelsea, this week. There might be a wait for the Welsh Wizard though; Boyle Sports have released odds that suggest David Beckham is likely to be knighted before him.

Manchester United triumphed over Chelsea in the Champions League, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the Reds’ elder statesman, Ryan Giggs, who set all three goals for his side. Wayne Rooney is certainly a fan of his teammate, and he reckons it won’t be long before Giggs becomes Sir Ryan.

Ryan Giggs shows no sign of retiring and, at 37, he is defying the odds to remain at the top of his game, gaining admiration from ardent United fans and neutrals alike. On course for his 12th Premier League title, Giggs already has an OBE – but will the Queen be impressed enough by his record-breaking feats and unique club loyalty to make him a Sir?

David Beckham also has an OBE and is on friendly enough terms with the Royal Family to be invited, along with his wife Victoria, to the Royal Wedding. Speculation that he would one day receive the ultimate Royal honour has been rife since he stepped down as England captain.

The odds from are -
David Beckham to be knighted first 1/7
Ryan Giggs to be knighted first 4/1

Nicola McGeady, of Boyle Sports, commented: “Each year Ryan Giggs gains more fans and the odds have shortened on him beating his former Man U team mate to become a Sir.”

“We think it would be only fair if the Queen was to knight the former England and Wales captains at the same time, but the majority view is that we will be seeing Sir David and Lady Victoria Beckham at Buckingham Palace first.”
