May 4 2011 - London - Becrypt, a leading endpoint security specialist today announced that Becrypt’s DISK Protect Baseline® data security solution has achieved interoperability certification with RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication. DISK Protect Baseline is CESG-approved by the UK Government for use with restricted and confidential data up to Impact Levels 3 and 4. This level covers virtually all data used within local government and the NHS and most of central government data.
The Becrypt DISK Protect Baseline data security solution utilizes RSA SecurID authentication for pre-boot authentication of a fully encrypted PC hard drive. By requiring users to insert their RSA SecurID SID hybrid tokens into the USB port on the PC at start up, organizations are enforcing strong authentication and ensuring compliance. An optional feature also locks the PC if the RSA SecurID SID 800 token is removed from the USB port.
Keith Ricketts, Marketing Director at Becrypt commented, “This RSA certification of interoperability gives further assurance to our joint UK Government and public sector customers that require a CESG-approved product to deal with sensitive data. This demonstrates Becrypt’s commitment to providing our customers with a wide range of security solutions that continue to keep pace with the latest technology. We have seen a significant demand from central and local government for data security solutions that include two-factor authentication, and we believe that the technical interoperability with the RSA SecurID solution provides a further level of flexibility without compromising any aspect of security.”
DISK Protect Baseline secures the data on desktop and laptop PCs with three layers of security - full disk encryption, strong pre-boot authentication and optional removable media encryption - without any noticeable impact on performance or user. Full disk encryption is performed transparently on the fly, avoiding the risk that the user may forget to encrypt sensitive files. Pre-boot authentication allows DISK Protect Baseline to encrypt the operating system and prevent data being accessed with low level tools. Removable media encryption secures data on USB and other connected devices.
RSA SecurID authentication is the market-leading two-factor authentication system used by more than 40 million people across more than 30,000 organisations worldwide. It is engineered to assure user identities and protect against unauthorised access to applications and resources across numerous physical locations. RSA SecurID technology is comprised of both a broad range of hardware and software authenticators that provide end users with a one-time password that is designed to change every 60 seconds, as well as its software engine – RSA Authentication Manager – which scales to support millions of users and provides the benefit of technical certification and interoperability with more than 300 products.
“We are pleased to welcome Becrypt to the RSA Secured Partner Program” said Ted Kamionek, Vice President, Corporate Development at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. “Organisations understand that encrypting information on laptops and PCs is absolutely essential, but a challenge still exists that if a user’s credentials are comprised the data may be at risk. Becrypt and RSA provide a solution that solves this challenge by being able to verifiably secure access to that critical infrastructure through a policy of strong authentication.”
Further versions from the DISK Protect suite are available. DISK Protect Standard provides a fully flexible solution for commercial implementations. DISK Protect Enhanced provides an increased level of security for Government implementations suitable for protecting data up to Impact Level 5 & 6 (SECRET & TOP SECERET).
