Trustmarque acquires specialist cloud business as part of its evolving cloud strategy

York, UK – 11th May 2011 – Value Added Reseller (VAR) Trustmarque Solutions announced today the acquisition of cloud infrastructure and hosted services provider, Nimbus Technology Systems Ltd. Nimbus Technology Systems currently provides consultancy, planning and migration services as well as a range of cloud infrastructure and software-as-a-service solutions for SME organisations. Nimbus’ clients are able to access and run their businesses on enterprise-class IT systems, software and infrastructure without any capital investment.

The acquisition provides Trustmarque with more breadth and depth of expertise in cloud service delivery as well as acquiring an expanded portfolio of managed cloud services from simple hosted email systems (hosted Microsoft Exchange 2007®) right through to complete hosted IT and Telecoms systems for larger organisations.

Whilst Trustmarque is already active in assisting organisations to plan and achieve their goals in this area, the acquisition delivers an established customer base, proven services and access to specific expertise and resources in cloud delivery. Through the Nimbus acquisition, leveraging best of breed providers and legacy expertise, Trustmarque is able to help customers safely and securely adopt cloud technologies into their IT environment. The net result is an ability to provide the right solution for customers whether it’s ‘on-premise’, ‘off-premise’ or a mix of both, affording customers true, independent service from a trusted partner.

This transaction is the first in a planned series of strategic acquisitions by Trustmarque as it aims to extend its expertise, range of capabilities and value added service offerings. The Nimbus acquisition will enhance Trustmarque Enterprise Solutions Group (TESG) services by adding a suite of hosted and managed solutions that sit between on-premise and SaaS offering a greater degree of customisation and customer alignment.

Simon Rutt will be heading up the TESG division, which will incorporate the Nimbus stack of services following the acquisition, and takes on the role of Services and Solutions Director. Rutt comments: “Customers want to understand straight forward options around cloud and how we can help their organisation securely and safely adopt cloud technologies. They need sensible, knowledgeable advice and services that are dependable.

As the cloud market develops, more and more technologies are being offered as a managed service. This ‘externalisation’ of IT is compelling as it offers the promise of agility and efficiency. However, questions remain around compliance, licensing, governance and security. There are complexities around interoperability and how best to ‘knit’ these managed services together with on-premise applications, to deliver the best business process outcomes. We aim to help organisations negotiate these hurdles for better business outcomes.”

Trustmarque believes that over the next 12 months organisations will continue to be under pressure to build more efficient, flexible, and dynamic IT environments and to address these complex questions while remaining safe and secure. As a result, the need for a trusted and capable partner will be more acute than ever before.

Scott Haddow, CEO for Trustmarque Solutions comments: “We are in the midst of a fundamental shift as more and more enterprises start to use services enabled by cloud technologies. As a result, Trustmarque is continually evolving and investing in our business to adapt to the needs of our customers and the Nimbus acquisition is part of that evolution. The net result is an organisation that has expert licensing knowledge, relevant and powerful managed services, strong vendor relationships and the ability to provide hands-on support with technology adoption whether it’s on- or off-premise. The Nimbus acquisition will further strengthen our services offering and is the first step on a journey to become the VAR of choice as organisations look to realise the benefits of cloud technology.”

In August 2006, leading mid-market private equity firm LDC supported Trustmarque’s management team with a £10 million equity investment as part of a £30 million buyout. Steve Harrison, investment director at LDC in Yorkshire, comments: “Since our investment in Trustmarque, we have provided ongoing support to the business. This transaction is a key strategic step for the firm, with its focus on cloud computing, and highlights its ambitions to expand further in this fragmented market.” Trustmarque is now able to offer the following cloud services:

• Hosted Software Asset Management service
• Hosted Microsoft exchange
• Hosted SharePoint
• Online backup
• Dynamic virtual servers
• Hosted virtual desktops
• Office 365 services
• Cloud security services including
