Garden camping makes tennis at Wimbledon and other London events accessible to a wide range of visitors

- Offer Wimbledon fans a pitch in your garden with www.CampInMyGarden.com -

Love it or loathe it, there’s no getting away from the hordes of visitors to southwest London during the Wimbledon tennis tournament. So why not profit from the influx? Wimbledon and nearby residents with garden space now have a hassle-free way to make a bit of extra money for themselves from the event by signing up with www.CampInMyGarden.com.

Some people cash in by vacating homes and letting them out to tournament ticketholders, players and their entourages, but that’s not an option for everyone. Opening your garden to campers is a great way to turn Wimbledon 2011 into a profitable experience without giving up or sharing all of your personal living space.

At this late stage, there’s practically no traditional accommodation left for the event. Many tennis fans face long and expensive commutes into the Capital to make the most of their precious tickets, because they don’t have the five star budgets of corporate or debentured ticket-holders. Visitors who secure last-minute tickets or returns have nowhere to turn for an overnight billet. With camping enjoying a big boost in popularity at the moment, a pitch close to the Centre Court action is just what these dedicated sports fans need.

Gardens big and small are in demand. Sign up on the website and choose what facilities you can offer. You can charge more for extras such as access to a bathroom, use of wifi, facilities to wash and dry clothes and providing meals or picnics. Depending on the space available, you can play host to one or several tents at a time.

CampInMyGarden.com founder Victoria Webbon had the interests of locals and visitors in mind when she came up with the website idea. “Living close to a popular event site can be frustrating, with extra traffic and crowds. This is an easy way to turn it to your advantage without disrupting your home life. Garden camping makes tennis at Wimbledon and other London events accessible to a wide range of visitors who might not otherwise be able to afford the experience. And a warm welcome in your garden could secure their loyalty and see them coming back again and again for a sightseeing visit to London or to attend other events, bringing you some handy extra income every time.”

It’s currently free to join the site at www.CampInMyGarden.com to advertise a garden for campers or to search for suitable camping accommodation using UK maps or close to a major event.

Garden owners need to provide some basic facilities from the house if the camping area is within the curtilage of the garden i.e. the camping area cannot be completely self-sufficient. There are a few exceptions and garden owners should take their own legal advice if they are unsure.

Camping is priced per person per night and the cost is set by the garden’s host. Depending on the location and facilities available, the price per night ranges from £4 to £40 per person per night. The minimum requirement is that a water supply is provided, though hosts can make as much or as little of their home amenities available to the campers as they wish.
