Cambridge UK: The creator of a new online and mobile service has coined the term Alphadaughters to describe a group of affluent 50+ females it believes the telecoms and mobile industry can tap into.
Alphadaughters refers to group of women in their 50s caring for ageing parents but at the same time pursuing a career and enjoying new found freedom after their own children have left home. The service, called Alphadaughters.com, aims to ease the load of this group of women through offering a range of services including a retailer’s online shopping service, built in diary for use by both daughter and parent, a database of trusted companies and trades people and third party content relevant to the 50+ demographic. The service is being offered as a white label product to retailers.
Explains Peter Kruger, who is behind the service and came up with the phrase Alphadaughter. “Mobile operators and online service providers have spent billions of pounds chasing the youth market, but over the next decade with an ageing population, youth unemployment rising and young people having to save hard to buy or rent their first house the relatively affluent boomer generation is looking increasingly attractive. The challenge for mobile operators is how to address this growing and increasingly tech savvy demographic without cannibalising the revenues they are earning from youth orientated services. We believe we have developed an online service that supports and entertains 50+ women who are managing their own and extended families.”
Alphadaughters.com says the company, will enable mobile carriers to consolidate their relationships with major retailers and protect their brands as sales of Android based devices grow and open the mobile market to new entrants.
The aim of the service is to ensure that contact between parents and the Alphadaughter is focussed on socialising rather than merely healthcare and welfare related issues. Research by Alphadaughters.com found that family carers who were able to move their parents into the emotional slot occupied by their children fared much better than those who still looked to their elderly parents for support. “The operation of the service and the content it delivers will help the Alphadaughter manage this readjustment in family relationships. And for retailers it brings the Alphadaughter’s influence on household spending, meaning retailers who befriend her are rewarded with the opportunity to increase market share at an minimal cost,” says Kruger.
The Alphadaughters.com service is supported by an advanced mobile platform developed by communications software provider Ziconix.
Notes for editors.
Peter Kruger is himself one of the boomer generation and founder of a high tech company which in the 1980s developed the first video in windows technology for personal computers – using it in applications as diverse as medical imaging, retail point of sales and cosmetics and hairdressing applications. Alphadaughters.com will help the user arrange travel and shopping for their parents, organise work to be carried out by approved trades people and manage their parent’s financial affairs. It also has social networking features that can be accessed both by the Alphadaughter and her parents and supports healthcare related features such as appointment reminders and basic health monitoring. For the Alphadaughter herself there is a ‘My Time’ feature with links to news content and her own social networking sites. The service has been designed to be accessed from an Android mobile phone, tablet computing device or a windows based PC. Alphadaughters.com will be marketed to retailers and mobile phone providers as a white-labelled service.
