Magical Programme Launch for Biggar Little Festival
Magic will be in the air in October when Barry and Stuart from the BBC series ‘The Magicians’ conjure up wonder and laughter when they appear as part of the Biggar Little Festival line up. There will be more illusion from Paul Zerdin whose spectacular ventriloquist show was a sell out at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and is expected to be the same in Biggar.
There will be magical music performances too with the very best of British Electric Blues featuring the Norman Beaker Band fronted by legendary Blues’ singers Chris Farlowe and Maggie Bell. Anthony Bowers will be casting a spell over his audience with an evening of classic American swing and jazz songs, and Judith Hall and Craig Ogden will enchant with a lively programme of pieces for flute and guitar.
David Hayman of ITV’s ‘Trial and Retribution’ promises to hold the house spellbound in a gripping roller coaster of emotions as he reflects over the death of his father in the one man play ‘Six and a Tanner’. For children Purves Puppets are performing two fantastic shows ‘Nessie the Loch Ness Monster’ and ‘Pips and Panda in Magicland’ in the stunning Victorian-style Biggar Puppet Theatre. You can challenge your inhibitions with Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens, an award winning Disco musical set on the planet Frottage 3, or celebrate the publication of poet and author Andrew Greig’s new poetry collection ‘As Though We Were Flying’.
During the Festival art exhibitions spring up like magic in every corner of Biggar, in cafés, churches, halls, shop windows and artist’s own studios. Sunday 23rd October is Biggar Day Out, with exhibitions, craft and food fair, street entertainment, carriage rides and many of Biggar’s wonderful independent shops opening their doors. And all through the Festival there are workshops in craft, dance and choral singing to bring out your creative side. Mark your diary right now with your magic pen or your everyday pencil – 14th to 29th October, Biggar Little Festival takes over the town, and look out for colourful fliers with more information about our wizard events.
