Skip navigation confirms that during the Eid Al Fitr celebrations which will take place in Al Aqabar hotel availability is set to be severely restricted over the major Islamic festival.

The three day long event is an important occasion for Muslims as it signifies Ramadan coming to an end and the festivities are especially busy as families come together to celebrate.

Also commonly referred to as The Little Feast or Eid Al Sagheer, before the feast commences a service is held outside in the early morning and Muslims turn out in the hundreds to attend. There will then be a period when everyone greets each other and later food is handed out to the poor.

For any visitors planning on visiting the city the official start date of the festival is undetermined as it depends on the moon sighting as Ramadan begins on the sighting of the full moon and Eid Al Fitr can only commence when the moon is seen again. It is likely to be close to 30th August 2011 and at this time finding a hotel Al Aqaba will be more difficult.

Due to the city being within close vicinity to Egypt many overseas workers will also be returning and combined with the people travelling down from the north of Jordan for the holiday this will lead to the city becoming crowded.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at commented: “The celebration is a bank holiday with schools and many businesses closing and this will cause disruptions as hotels become fully booked.”
