Skip navigation can confirm that this year's African Culture Festival will be taking place from the 19th to the 21st of August in Frankfurt, Germany.

This three-day event celebrates all aspects of the vibrant and colourful African cultures. The festival strives to cater to everyone, and there will be something for all the family to enjoy here including handicrafts stalls, traditional food and drink and live African music, drum and dance performances taking place on a number of outdoor stages set up throughout the venue.

Visitors to the festival will also able to attend a number of round table discussions about pertinent African issues. In the past, these discussions have included a presentation by The Slave House Museum curator from Goree, an island off the coast of Senegal that saw great abuses as the result of the slave trade.

The festival is held, in part, to draw attention to the impact enslavement and colonialism has had on the peoples of Africa, and is organised by the Senegalese Association. This year's festival follows a particularly significant couple of years in German politics concerning enslavement and colonialism, with a tribunal held in 2010 to discuss the issue of reparations.

Entrance is free across all three days and Solmspark, where this event is being held, is easily accessible from the S-Bahn Station at Frankfurt-Rödelheim. For those visitors attending the festival and looking for an accommodation, hotel Frankfurt is sure to have something to suit, including many options located near the festival venue at Solmspark.
