Bristol, July 12th 2011 - Steve White, one of the world’s top 10 yachtsmen, demonstrated his top class helming skills in the June 2011 Superyacht Cup in Palma, Majorca, by steering the 24m Ivanka to win the regatta’s third and final race to take her into 10th place overall—a superb result for one of the smallest yachts taking part in this high-profile event.

Steve, who is sponsored by bluQube, a leading vendor of financial management software, was brought in to helm the all carbon cruiser-racer by its Russian owner and had just two afternoons to train with the yacht’s professional crew of nine before the three-race competition started.

Established in 1996 in Palma, Mallorca, the Superyacht Cup is an annual series of hard-fought races for superyachts over 24m long. Twenty-one yachts, ranging from 24m up to the mammoth 62m schooner Athos, entered this year’s Cup. With its multi-billion dollar fleet, professional crews, and determined owners, the Palma regatta is renowned as one of the most spectacular sailing regattas in the world.

Best known for his 8th place success in the 2009 Vendée Globe solo, non-stop, around-the-world race, Steve steered Ivanka in each of the intensely competitive three-hour long races that took place in the Bay of Palma in perfect sailing conditions of sunshine and 15-20 knots of breeze.

Speaking after winning the third race he said, “It was a real treat for me to sail with a fully professional crew after all those miles alone. The boat was a joy to drive and our results improved through the regatta with a win on the final day—what could be finer!”

Simon Kearsley, CEO at bluQube, which supported Steve during his Vendée Globe campaign and sees sailing sponsorship as an intrinsic part of building its brand values, added, “We are delighted at Steve’s success in the Superyacht Cup which once again proves his talent and commitment and we will be avidly following his future career as he takes on new challenges which include plans for entering the 2012 Vendée Globe.”

Such was Steve’s success in Palma that he has been invited by the owner of Ivanka to helm her again in Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, a week-long regatta taking place in the Bay of Saint-Tropez, France, from September 24th-October 2nd.
