Micro-P participates in series of fund raising events generating over £20,000 for charity Wednesday 13 July 2011 PDF Print Leading UK retail and B2B distributor raises funds for Naomi House Children’s Hospice, Winchester, Hampshire and MedEquip4Kids HAMPSHIRE – 13th July 2011 – Micro-P (www.micro-p.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of DCC plc and a leading retail and B2B distributor within the UK is extremely proud to have recently participated in a series of fund raising events for two charity organisations based in the UK. Micro-P directors and employees rolled up their sleeves, swapped their business attire for hiking boots, gardening gloves and wellingtons and actively took part in the fund raising. The Naomi House Director’s Dig, MEGAHIKE and the National Three Peaks Challenge raised funds for both Naomi House Children’s Hospice, Micro-P’s nominated local charity in Hampshire and MedEquip4kids a charity that provides equipment for local hospitals to support the medical treatment of children across the North of England. Combined, the three events generated an overall fund raising figure of £20,000 as well as £3,000 worth of donated computer hardware for staff and children to use. Sponsored Director’s Dig - Naomi House, Winchester, Hampshire The director’s sponsored dig at Naomi House Children’s Hospice generated £10,000. Just days away from the end of their first financial quarter all ten Micro-P directors swapped familiar shirts and ties for gardening gloves and wellingtons. The team turned their hands to gardening, pond clearing, sweeping, digging and generally helping out around the gardens at the hospice. After a hard day toiling in the heat a cheque for £10,000 was presented to Tina Starbuck, Corporate Fundraiser at Naomi House, together with a selection of donated computer hardware for staff and children to use. “It was a very fulfilling day and it was the least we could do for such a worthwhile charity,” said Nick Foster HR Director, Micro-P. “We are now planning what we can do next to raise even more funds and awareness.” “We would like to say a huge thankyou to the directors and staff at Micro-P for their marvellous support over the past twelve months”, said Deborah Speirs, Corporate Fundraising Manager, Naomi House Children’s Hospice. “In addition to raising £10,000 to help pay for crucial care services at the hospice the company has also helped in very practical ways including volunteering days and donations of gifts in kind. Support like this is very important to us and makes a real difference to the life-limited children and young people, and their families who stay with us. We have enjoyed working with everyone at Micro-P and look forward to continuing a very successful charity partnership.” MEGAHIKE - MedEquip4Kids MEGAHIKE is one of the toughest team challenges within the UK. The monster 50 mile hike is set in the heart of the Pennines and treks along the backbone of England, the Pennine Way. In June 2011 a team of courageous Micro-P employees put their best foot forward trekked from sunrise to sunset and in the space of 24 hours covered a gruelling 50 miles. The team completed the challenge in the allotted time raising over £3,802 and still rising for MedEquip4Kids, a charity that provides equipment for local hospitals to support the medical treatment of children. MedEquip4Kids was founded in 1985 and works with medical staff, play therapists, community nurses and several registered charities to provide equipment and improve the environment in hospitals across the North of England. “We are overwhelmed with the support we have received from Micro-P. Clearly they are not phased at all by a bit of sweat, blood and tears,” said Sarah Suthers, Appeals Fundraiser, MedEquip4Kids. “Over the past 2 years they have raised over £8,500 for us by participating in the MEGAHIKE. Every single blister has been well worth it! With the support from companies like Micro-P we are able to continue to ensure children and babies have the best start in life. A big thankyou to them for their support and we hope to see them at next year’s event!” National Three Peaks Challenge – Naomi House, Winchester, Hampshire In April 2011 a team of intrepid Micro-P individuals completed the National Three Peaks Challenge. A challenge that involves fearlessly attempting to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours! The peaks included Snowdon in Wales (1,085m), Scafell Pike in England (978m) and Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,344m). Overall, the team covered over 26 miles, walked for over 14 hours and endured 10 hours of driving and 9,700 feet of ascent. Their commitment and dedication raised over £2,500 for Naomi House Children’s Hospice, Winchester, Hampshire. The charity offers care that includes planned and emergency respite stays, end of life and bereavement care. This support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The services the Trust provides are available to families from two purpose built hospices, Naomi House and jacksplace, which are situated in Sutton Scotney, north of Winchester in Hampshire. In addition the community service supports families, living within approximately an hour’s drive, in their own homes who need our help during emergency situations. It costs around £5 million a year to provide these services to the children, young people and families. With less than 15% of income coming from Government and other statutory bodies, the Trust relies on the generosity of people in the community to continue its work. Their support enables the charity to provide these crucial care services, free of charge, to children, young adults and their families. www.naomihouse.org.uk About MedEquip4Kids MedEquip4Kids works with medical staff, community health teams and other registered charities to provide medical equipment and improve facilities in hospitals and the community. The charity policy is to fund items which are known to improve the care provided to babies, children and teenagers, but which are not readily available with the NHS' limited budgets. Increasingly, a lot of the larger hospitals employ fundraisers to secure extra funds the NHS cannot provide, but many smaller hospitals, community teams and the ambulance service do not have access to a fundraising officer. It is common to find nurses fundraising in their spare time and during their working day. MedEquip4Kids believe these people should be focusing on caring for children and the charity's aim is to fundraise on their behalf. The money raised is spent directly on the items they request and no money is passed on to any third party. To date, we have raised more than £12 million and we work with hospitals and community health teams across the North of England to ensure that, when children fall ill, suffer injury or are forced to deal with a long-term illness, they have the best standard of health care available to them. www.medequip4kids.org.uk About Micro-P Micro-P, established for over 30 years, is one of the leading IT trade distributors in the UK with revenues of over £550m in 2010.
