Theale, Reading, U.K., 27 July 2011. Integralis, the UK’s largest IT security solutions provider, today announced the launch of its Firewall Configuration Assessment Service. The service combines technology and expert analysis from experienced consultants to identify deviations from best practise, mis-configurations and redundant and conflicting rules within an organisation’s firewalls.

Garry Sidaway, director of security strategy, Integralis said, “The firewall is the organisation’s first line of defence and is still its most important one. The consumerisation of IT, data centre consolidation and the proliferation of web applications have created a mass of differing configurations and rules, many redundant and conflicting. In this environment complexity equals increased risk.

“Organisations facing these demands need to have a clear overview of their current firewall performance and risk profile so that they can understand what they need to do to reduce vulnerabilities and manage complexity as their firewalls develop.”

According to industry analyst *Gartner, over 99% of firewall breaches are caused by configuration errors rather than vulnerabilities or flaws in the firewall itself. A firewall will only be effective if it is configured appropriately to the business whilst also ensuring that software is current and rules and inter-dependencies are up-to-date.

Alastair Broom, Solutions Director, Integralis said, “It is surprising how many organisations are not using current firewall software or have not deployed the latest software patches.
We examine the firewall environment and offer an independent assessment of how it has been configured and make expert recommendations for how the organisation can mitigate risk and improve the efficiency of its firewalls.”

Delivered by IT security expert consultants, the assessment service provides visibility into how the firewall is operating, the current software that is deployed and its configuration and how this compares to best practises. By bringing many years of experience implementing large, complex firewall environments across multiple vendors our consultants have the expertise to quickly and cost effectively identify problems and recommend solutions.

A typical assessment service takes five to ten days. Following the assessment and full examination of the firewall systems, Integralis consultants provide a full report with recommendations and the best practices and industry standards to which they relate.

The Firewall Configuration Assessment Service from Integralis is just one of a range of services which combine consultancy and technology. Other services include: Application Assessment, Network Assessment, Data Assessment, Vulnerability Assessment and Configuration Assessment.
