FOX & ROSE ANNOUNCES ITS THREE EMERGING BRITISH LINGERIE DESIGNERS OF THE YEAR Friday 29 July 2011 PDF Print ** Press Release ** FOX & ROSE ANNOUNCES ITS THREE EMERGING BRITISH LINGERIE DESIGNERS OF THE YEAR Kirstie Groombridge, Rosalind Strach and Sarah Burgess Selected For Their Striking Designs And Commercial Potential 29th July 29th 2011, London: Fox & Rose, one of the web’s fastest growing online designer underwear retailers, has announced its three Emerging British Lingerie Designers Of The Year. Following the final year catwalk show of De Montfort University’s prestigious Contour Fashion Degree, Kirstie Groombridge, Sarah Burgess and Rosalind Strach were chosen by the fashion-led luxury lingerie retailer for their eye catching capsule collections, from an extremely high standard of graduates in 2011. Now in it’s second year, the Fox & Rose Young Lingerie Designer of the Year aims to promote new talent in the lingerie sector, giving a platform for aspiring underwear designers to showcase their work. In conjunction with De Montfort University’s prestigious Contour Fashion degree – the only degree of its kind in the world, now operating for more than 64 years – Fox & Rose selects their three designers each year from the final year graduate catwalk show. Should the students wish to make their work commercially available, Fox & Rose also provides them with the visibility and channel on which to sell their creations. The three winners are selected to reflect the luxury lingerie retailers ethos of providing looks to satisfy the seductive ‘Fox’ or the ethereal ‘Rose’. Kirstie Groombridge’s collection ‘Opulence’, selected for its Fox appeal. Consisting of six lingerie, bodywear and corsetry outfits it was inspired by Elizabethan costume and the work, life and times of William Shakespeare. Experimenting with different garment shapes she combined modern ideas with historic influences. Her signature style includes contrast straps on her garments and various cut out details on fabrics including suede, luxury silks and a geometric French lace to produce sensual, yet sophisticated luxury lingerie. The inspiration for Rosalind Strach’s collection originated from Paris and the Art Nouveau decorating the elegant city. Exploring the work of architects such as Hector Guimard and Jules Lavirotte Rosalind was inspired to put a contemporary twist on a classical concept. Soft gloving leather was laser cut into motifs and entwined into her lingerie to extenuate the female figure, leading Fox & Rose to select the collection for its ‘Rose’ appeal. The capsule collection takes elements from nature including symmetrical flowers such as the Orchid. Rosalind designed and developed a print, capturing the fluidity of the Parisian architecture and delicate dusky colour palette. Sarah Burgess’s 'Tahiti Resort ' designer swimwear collection was chosen for its vibrant take on a 1950’s vintage style with striking hand painted tropical prints inspired by the flora of far away shores. Taking her style inspiration from the fifties, she revived vintage details like ruched panelled inserts, modesty skirts and high waisted briefs – a ‘Fox’ take on beachwear. The collection has a wide target market as the retro style appeals to both young and old. Fox & Rose commended all three designers for their originality and design, but also for their commercial knowledge with the collections displayed being of high retail quality. Amanda Lorenzani, Co Founder of Fox & Rose, said, “There is so much design talent in the UK and we really do lead the world for cutting edge styling and innovative design. We felt that Fox & Rose could provide the perfect platform to showcase some of the up and coming designers, as we champion British labels, as well as top international brands.” Gillian Proctor, programme leader for Contour Fashion and Fashion & Contour Design said: “Fox and Rose have established themselves significantly in the contemporary lingerie sector and we are delighted that for a second year running they have selected three graduates from our courses at DMU to highlight up and coming talent. I wish more retailers had that foresight.” Notes to editors: About Fox & Rose (www.foxandrose.com) Championing British-led design and optimum fit, Fox & Rose aims to be the leading online retail destination for designer lingerie and luxury underwear.
