The awarded piece by Barry Andrews

three of the core words used in the wish list - scale, hope and endeavour

When founders of the website www.CreateMyArt.com needed a theme with which to test their website, they couldn’t think of a better way than to honour the men and women building the Olympic stadia.

β€œSince we promote British artists on our site it seemed fitting to use our inaugural piece to honour the work that’s happening in the field of architecture and design for London 2012,” founder Jo Gourley Froome said.

CreateMyArt.com offers the opportunity to art lovers to create a 'wish list' of their creative vision. Whether it is for an abstract canvas, a garden sculpture or a huge ceramic centre piece, they can detail the size, colour scheme, medium and budget range. Artists will then respond with their proposals, detailing how they will best deliver the piece and the budget they can do it for. Artists are able to see the price range of other proposals creating a bidding atmosphere, ensuring that everyone gets great price for their commissioned art work.

Jo and co-founder Kim MaClarty needed to see the CreateMyArt process in action before launch and decided to write a wish list with the working title β€˜Nobody Sees Them Coming and Nobody Sees Them Leave’. They were able to detail the sentiment behind the piece as part of the briefing process as well as detail the size (1.2m x 1.5m) and specify oil as the medium. The price bracket that the wish list featured in was Β£2000-Β£5000.

The artist that successfully proposed for the work was Barry Andrews a professional artist, born in Epping and now works out of his studio in Hadleigh, Essex.

β€œBarry described so effectively in his proposal how he was going to capture the essence of the piece by focusing on three of the core words used in the wish list - scale, hope and endeavour. We knew he was the one to create it for us.”

Barry signed up to Create My Art to find a new avenue of gaining art commissions and is really excited about how the concept of a bespoke art website could bring him a whole new audience.
