Do you wear cap and glasses during sporting or leisure activities, such as playing golf, tennis, fishing or jogging? Inventor Dr Kin Kam of Inclusive Innovations Ltd is launching in August an innovative cap accessory called the iiClip which connects the cap and glasses in such a way, that the weight of the glasses is made to disappear whilst the frame of the glasses is reassuringly stabilised. The effect is a magical feeling of weightless spectacles which does not distract the wearer due to the glasses slipping or moving whilst engaging in active sports or leisure activities.

The iiClip is a follow up innovation from a previous product, the iiCap which is a specially designed cap providing the same function, whereas the iiClip is an accessory that can be fitted to most standard caps as many cap owners are loyal to their current branded headwear, but yearn for the new functionality of the iiCap.

Beside the popular applications above, Dr Kam is also looking into niche applications such as offering the use of iiClip or iiCap for spectacles wearers recovering from cosmetic rhinoplasty (nose job) surgery or people with facial deformity; as an aid to women’s beauty regime in preventing the indented ‘red marks’ on the nose look when wearing ill-fitting or heavy prescription glasses; and similar benefits of overcoming discomfort from wearing heavy 3D spectacles whilst viewing 3D TV content.

As a matter of interest, the iiCap was featured in last year’s Sport Relief version of Dragons’ Den. Unfortunately, Kin did not receive any offers but he was not deterred since he knew his patented ideas have broad and global potential. Through his persistence and a bit of luck, he met a trio of experienced product designers who were also on the verge of forming their own innovation and design studio IPeology Ltd. They agreed with the potential and then invested in the development and production of the iiClip.

“The steps required to develop and market a brand new product is a very arduous journey, so it was great to have been able to partner with flexible and like-minded people in my original home city of Manchester”; said Dr Kam who is now based in York, but was originally from Manchester. Furthermore, he observed: “You have a much better chance of forming a partnership deal with other entrepreneurs who are just starting up than with established companies who would rather you just pay them for the job, instead of sharing the risks for greater long term reward.”

Perhaps, as some might say, a determined entrepreneur’s ambition will not be capped or be clipped easily.
