Symbol Technologies today announced that it has entered into
a worldwide agreement with NCR Corporation that allows NCR
to use Symbol's Spectrum24 wireless local area network PC
cards in its retail point-of-sale terminals.

NCR will integrate Symbol's Spectrum24 wireless local area
network technology into retail POS terminals, providing
another wireless point-of-sale option to its customers. The
Symbol wireless network allows retailers to set up and
reconfigure POS terminals without traditional hard wiring to
a central computer. Retailers can easily add additional
terminals during peak selling times and add terminals in
remote locations.

Symbol's Spectrum24 is a high-performance wireless LAN that
operates in the 2.4Ghz band using frequency hopping spread
spectrum modulation. It provides fast, seamless roaming
among cells using Symbol's unique, pre-emptive roaming
algorithm with load balancing. Capacity is expandable
through the use of multiple access points and provides very
high system throughput, range and immunity to interference.

Symbol will be incorporating the newly ratified IEEE 802.11
wireless LAN standard specification into the wireless access
point and into all of its Spectrum24-based products.

NCR joins a growing number of OEMs contracting with Symbol
to integrate Spectrum24 wireless local area network
technology into retail solutions. To date, this group
includes Fujitsu/ICL, IBM, Monarch, Percon, and Siemens
Nixdorf.

John Manchir, NCR vice president, engineering and
manufacturing said: "The reliable performance throughput and
interference immunity provided by the Spectrum24 network
will allow us to offer another wireless solution to meet the
needs of our POS customers."

Tomo Razmilovic, president and chief operating officer of
Symbol Technologies, added: "Spectrum24 has become the
wireless backbone of choice for critical global customer
communications in retail and other markets. Adding NCR to
our list of OEM partners consolidates our market position in
the retail arena, and is a clear indication that Symbol is
the preferred provider of wireless LAN technology for retail
solutions."

NCR Corporation's computer systems, store automation,
banking systems, consulting and support services are used by
customers in more than 130 countries around the world.

NCR's Retail Systems Group, which has its headquarters in
Atlanta, is a leading provider of store automation and data
warehousing solutions to retailers. Ends
