Plustek Launches OpticLab H850 Histology Scanner Tuesday 13 September 2011 PDF Print TELFORD, 13th September, 2011 - Plustek Technology Inc., a manufacturer of consumer, prosumer, professional and office imaging devices (including portable scanners, sheetfed/flatbed scanners and photo scanners), has launched the OpticLab H850―the easiest option for digitising medical or botanical histology samples. For the first time―outside of using a microscope or digital camera―scientists now a quick alternative to scanning histological samples. The Plustek OpticLab H850 is not designed to replace a microscope and digital camera. It is designed to complement those instruments by doing something they cannot. Namely, capture an entire histological sample without having to stitch it together. The resulting picture will have the image quality of a 5.0x objective. Conventional microscopes equipped with low power objectives and digital cameras typically cannot capture samples larger than 6mm in diameter. The OpticLab H850, however, captures specimens as large as 36mm in diameter. Better yet, there is no uneven illumination or out of focus sample edges, as can be the case with traditional low power image capture techniques. Scientists simply attach samples as large as 36mm in diameter to the 1 x 3” cover-slipped glass slide and the OpticLab H850 scans an image at up to 7,200dpi resolution. Using the bundled slide holder, the samples are well protected and there is no physical contact with the media during scanning process. The OpticLab H850 solves low power, large field of view and high resolution imaging problems. This low cost histology scanner has a scan area of 36.8 x 25.4mm (1.42 x 1.0 inches), resulting in usable images up to 10,080 x 6,480 pixels. The OpticLab H850 features a single button for intuitive control and is straightforward to set up and operate. Scanned images can be saved onto a Windows or Mac computer and also shared on a network for use in a lab, classroom, or conference setting. Images can be saved in popular file formats including TIFF, JPEG, BMP and GIF. Key Features: • Low cost histology slide scanner • One button control scans, saves and (if available) opens image in Adobe Photoshop • Typical scan times is under a minute • Holder accepts two 1 x 3” slides • 7,200dpi resolution, 3.5 microns-per-pixel • Single pass scan mode • 16/8 bits per colour sampling rate • Dynamic range up to 4.2 O.D • Real time sharpening and automatic colour correction • Rapid accurate fixed focus • Includes SilverFast software • USB 2.0 interface NOTE TO EDITORS: Images of the OpticLab H850 can be found at http://bit.ly/o8yagb.
