Only 40% Monitor Application Use and Re-Deploy Assets Around the Business

LEXINGTON, Mass. ─ September 14, 2011 ─ Ipswitch Inc.’s Network Management Division, developer of the WhatsUp Gold suite of innovative IT management solutions, today announced the results of a poll of some of its 100,000 customers on application use and redeployment. Of those surveyed, 35.9% did not monitor application use at all and a further quarter did not think to re-deploy underused applications around the business.

Full results to the question “Is your organisation managing or monitoring application use and re-deploying them?” were:

• No 35.9%
• We do monitor use, but do not currently re-deploy applications 24.5%
• Yes 39.6%

Correctly monitoring application use within the organisation not only reduces the risk of non-compliance to licensing agreements but also reduces the potential for overspend as you can correctly facilitate use of the applications across your entire IT estate. FAST, the UK authority on Software Asset Management and IT Compliance, recently discovered that on only a handful of projects, there was an application overspend of some £1.7m.

Ipswitch’s WhatsUp Gold makes application monitoring simple, by providing a full set of easy to use application monitors including basic IP services like FTP, Telnet, SMTP, HTTP/S etc; Windows operating system component processes; and more complex end user applications like MS Exchange and SQL databases.

With WhatsUp Gold application monitoring software, you can:

• Ensure critical IP services, applications and processes are healthy and available
• Identify and alert on application slowdowns before users are affected
• Troubleshoot application issues in real time with process and performance counter visibility
• Verify execution and content integrity across multiple types of IP services
• Build custom monitors to track business critical applications

“It is amazing in the current economical climate that not all businesses are monitoring the use of their applications and redeploying them where possible as they are potentially throwing thousands of pounds down the drain each year,” said Ennio Carboni, president of Ipswitch Network Management Division. “With WhatsUp Gold you can easily monitor and ensure that business critical applications are performing and being properly utilised. In addition, WhatsUp Gold application monitoring can identify impending issues before they affect your users so that you can get them resolved – saving potentially costly disruption.”
