New plug-ins enable organisations across the globe to deliver Internet Explorer 9 web application compatibility

London, 14 September 2011 – ChangeBASE, world leaders in automated application compatibility testing, remediation and conversion, today announced its new Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) plug-ins for AOK Browse-It.

“IE9 is the latest browser edition and forms a core element of the migration path to Windows 7,” commented Greg Lambert, Chief Technology Architect, ChangeBASE. “Today, global organisations have on average two web applications for every native application, therefore the ability to assure compatibility to the latest browser is critical. In our experience, completing this task efficiently has been a major hurdle to adoption.”

While IE9 holds a global market share of 20.4% of all browsers , organisations are finding it difficult to achieve web application compatibility to successfully deploy IE9. Chris Jackson, Microsoft’s Principal Compatibility Lead, recently highlighted this issue when he stated that IE6 was in fact the “number one blocker of Windows 7 deployments that we have right now”. Organisations are staying with IE6 because of the number of web applications that are only compatible with the older browsers .

The AOK plug-ins address this problem, ensuring efficient and effective IE9 compatibility for web applications. Addressing two key areas of requirement, the fourteen individual plug-ins enable organisations worldwide to automatically test and report on a web application’s compatibility with IE9. As with any browser the two key areas of concern when ensuring compatibility are presentation (the way the application looks when accessed) and operation (how the application behaves when deployed).

Addressing Presentation Compatibility Issues
The AOK Browse-It IE9 plug-ins address compatibility issues including MIME handling analysis, Asian font, static text issues and CSS3 declaration compatibility. For all of these concerns, the AOK IE9 plug-ins will test the web application against these known issues and report using the AOK Red/Amber/Green status reporting structure at the click of a button.

Addressing Operational Compatibility Issues
Operational compatibility issues concern the way in which a web application behaves when accessed via the browser. In IE9 there are eight areas that can cause the web application to experience errors. These include compatibility issues around HTML syntax, attributes and properties, iFrames, JavaScript properties, framework and functions, and deprecated DOM events. Again, in all of these errors the AOK IE9 plug-ins will test and report on compatibility issues, illustrating the severity of the issue using the AOK Red/Amber/Green reports, and providing information at a granular level.

Benefits
“By using AOK and the AOK Browse-It IE9 plug-ins, organisations will know that once the web application has been tested and reported on, proactive decisions can then be made against that application – be it to deploy on IE9, fix if appropriate or be made redundant from the application estate,” continued Greg Lambert. “With the development of these critical plug-ins, AOK is yet again enabling organisations to achieve their migration goals in a faster timeframe and we are already seeing the benefit of this across our client base.”

“Building upon the success of the AOK application compatibility solution that underpins our Compatibility Testing Service, SCC has leveraged the latest testing plug-ins that now allow compatibility testing of web applications right up to compatibility with IE9, thus unlocking the final blocker to Windows 7 migration,” commented Rhys Sharp, CTO of SCC. “The benefit to our customers is that our compatibility testing service saves time and money when migrating to Windows 7 and enables them to make the most of their hardware and software investments.”

AOK Browse-It for IE9 will be available for general release on 5th October and will be shipped via the ChangeBASE partner network.
