Edinburgh, 15th September 2011 – Realise Digital has designed and developed a microsite to support a much-publicised Channel 4 News documentary, ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’. The website - - was commissioned by Channel 4 following an overwhelming reaction to the documentary which first aired in June 2011. Realise Digital was tasked with helping to sustain discussion around the issues raised by providing a single destination point for content, for viewers as well as international policy makers looking to build awareness of the points raised.

The documentary, which investigated the war crimes that allegedly took place during the final months of Sri Lanka’s 25-year-long civil war, was presented by Jon Snow and was aired in a late night slot because much of the footage was graphic and harrowing. The microsite, developed by Realise Digital, allows visitors to re-watch the documentary, but also includes a range of additional information such as key statistics, links to multimedia content, Channel 4 News articles and related external websites.

In a further effort to encourage wider comment and debate, Realise Digital also integrated links to social media channels. The entire microsite was developed and went live in under a month; the quick turnaround was vital to ensure the issues remained front of mind amongst all those that watched the original programme.

Vicky Taylor, Commissioning Editor of New Media, News and Current Affairs at Channel 4 said: “This is an incredibly difficult subject matter and Realise Digital demonstrated sensitivity and commitment throughout this project. There was a huge response to the initial showing of the documentary and we felt we needed a special, impactful site to showcase this important and on-going subject.”

Don Smith, Creative Director at Realise Digital said: “It’s impossible not to be deeply affected by the Killing Fields documentary. We wanted to create a site that helped raise awareness of these horrific incidents by providing easy access to further information. The site is easy to navigate despite the fact that it contains a large amount of content. We feel proud to have been able to help if even in a very small way and hope the site will be a useful resource for anyone looking to find out more.”
