skobbler to launch UK’s first hybrid sat nav app

Download skobbler premium navigation for free and get an automatic upgrade to skobbler’s next generation app, Navigation 2, in October

Berlin, Germany, 27th September 2011 - skobbler, specialist developer of map-based apps, has announced that in preparation for the launch of its next generation hybrid sat nav app, Navigation 2, for a limited time the current premium version of its bestselling sat nav app “skobbler Navigation” is available to download from the Apple App Store for free. By downloading this version, users will then receive a free automatic upgrade to Navigation 2 in October.

Navigation 2 will feature skobbler’s brand new hybrid functionality which gives users the option to download maps to a device to help save on expensive data roaming charges whilst abroad and ensures uninterrupted service if a phone were to lose data connection. The ability to navigate both online and offline addresses the main problems that current online sat nav app users encounter, providing the perfect balance between service reliability and economic usage of limited storage capacity on mobile devices.

From now until October, both new customers and the 350,000 existing users of skobbler’s original free app “skobbler Lite” (which is being discontinued upon the release of Navigation 2) can take advantage of this free offer. Navigation 2 will then be sold at its regular price in the Apple App Store thereafter.

“Our research tells us that while sat nav solutions are inherently useful, many consumers still become frustrated by what they believe to be inefficient route calculations, loss of signal, out of date maps and expensive map updates. We’re trying to solve all of these problems with our forward thinking solution, which offers regular, free software and map updates, and a range of genuinely useful features,” says Marcus Thielking, co-founder of skobbler.

“We’re very grateful to our customers for helping to make skobbler the success it is today,” says Thielking. “Customer feedback is essential to us and our aim to constantly evolve the product into an industry-leading satellite navigation solution, and we’re extremely excited about the next generation – Navigation 2. We’re keen to get as many people on board as possible to help build on this success, and as such are offering our premium suite for free, with a free upgrade to Navigation 2 on release.”

To take advantage of this special offer, customers can visit the Apple App Store and download the premium version of skobbler Navigation today for FREE. This offer is for a limited time and only the users of this premium version will be upgraded to Navigation 2 at no extra cost upon the release of the new software.

For a limited time, skobbler Navigation is available for free from the App Store:
