The Mumpreneur Awards is an annual ceremony aimed at celebrating parents throughout the UK who manage the difficult task of juggling business with family life

Clare Moran, founder of My Secret Kitchen, the UK’s first food and drink tasting company, took the coveted Mumpreneur of the Year – best saleswoman award, this week after her entry, judged by a revered panel of judges, including Duncan Bannatyne was deemed to be the most deserving.

The Award – The Mumpreneur Awards is an annual ceremony aimed at celebrating parents throughout the UK who manage the difficult task of juggling business with family life.

The Business - My Secret Kitchen is the UK’s first nationwide food and drink tasting company, created by Clare Moran in 2007 in Ashton Keynes, on the Glos/Wilts border.
My Secret Kitchen’s purpose is to create delicious, unique and usefulfoods,that are introduced to people through fun and informative tasting events run by friendly and passionate consultants.
The products are developed by Clare and are produced solely in the UK. They can be used for everyday meals or as part of gourmet dining and in both cases invite consumers to ‘make it more amazing’. The products come ready to use or require the addition of one or two store cupboard ingredients. Every item has been designed to have many different uses and are free of artificial colours and flavours. The range has something for everyone with interesting new flavours (Szechuan Pepper Pot) a twist on a classic (Maple Caramel Sauce) and more traditional products which aim to be the best ever! (Ultimate Chocolate Brownie Mix). Recipes and ideas on how to create great meal time occasions are provided with all the products.

The Winner - Clare has a passion for great food, great meals and great times with friends. Her language has always been food - she has an honours degree in Food Science & Catering and worked in the food industry in the UK and USA for 5 years before being promoted to full time Mum in 2002.
After taking time out to have children, Clare had a strong desire to use her talents in food that still enabled her to be with her family. The ‘eureka’ moment was realising there was no-one in the UK making amazing foods that consumers could try before they buy. She also realised that the direct selling industry would enable her to share her business concept with others & through great leadership and great teams they could build their own sustainable businesses too.
Clare’s advice to anyone in the same situation is first and foremost, to find your passion and your purpose to your business. It will be the glue that holds you together through the inevitable ups and downs. Secondly, a commitment to ‘give it a go’ without fear or compromise; failure is relative and always an opportunity to learn something new. This gives confidence in any situation – one of the most common sentiments from new My Secret Kitchen consultants is a fear of rejection or thinking ‘I’m not a sales person’. Having seen many mums coax their children through tantrums and plates of broccoli - they are the best sales people in the world!

The Growth - Sales have increased steadily each year and the business is looking back on three years of successful growth. Just as importantly, the business has proven to be an inspiration to those who have joined the company as consultants.. To date, My Secret Kitchen is approaching 100 consultants throughout the country.
