Students from Chelsea College of Art & Design to Provide Contemporary Works

LONDON — 5 October 2011 — Hitachi Consulting UK today announced its continued support of an annual art project with Chelsea College of Art & Design, University of the Arts London. This is the fifth consecutive year Hitachi Consulting UK has supported newly commissioned pieces from selected art students for its offices at MoreLondon Riverside in London.

The programme is open to students from the BA Fine Art course at Chelsea. Hitachi Consulting UK invited the students to view the office space and submit proposals for contemporary art pieces designed and made in response to Hitachi Consulting’s work environment and company aspirations. Ten proposals were selected and subsequently rented for the coming year. Hitachi Consulting UK also financed a materials allowance for each of the selected students. At the end of the year, Hitachi Consulting employees have the opportunity to purchase any of the works from the artists.

“We really appreciate the support by Hitachi Consulting UK, this being the fifth year of an unusual and inspired association,” said Jeffrey Dennis, Senior Lecturer on the BA Fine Art Course at Chelsea. “It’s a great opportunity for the students to showcase their work within an architect-designed workplace, challenging them to engage and respond to the demands of that space and the people using it, with implications for how their work will be encountered and experienced over a period of time.”

John O’Brien, Executive Vice President for the UK, Hitachi Consulting UK, added, “The arts initiative is such an innovative programme and so rewarding for us as a company. We’ve continued to support Chelsea College of Art and Design for the past five years. The quality and detail of the work continues to impress and we get nothing but positive feedback from all who see the pieces, which is testament to their talent.”
