New version of Centrix WorkSpace iQ helps reduce Windows 7 migration efforts and issues by up to 90%

Management dashboards highlight significant efficiency improvements in end-user computing infrastructure

IPExpo, London, UK – 19th October 2011: Centrix Software, a leading provider of unified end-user computing solutions, today announced the release of a host of new features for its end-user computing analytics product Centrix WorkSpace iQ at IPEXPO, London. The latest version delivers new reporting capabilities that enable organisations to streamline the delivery of desktop transformation projects and operate infrastructure optimally. In addition, the company also announced the availability of WorkSpace iQ as a cloud-based service, enabling customers to benefit from rich, deep end-user computing analytics without the need for supporting in-house infrastructure.

WorkSpace iQ gives organisations the ability to see how IT services are really being used across their infrastructures. With deeper visibility on actual IT consumption patterns organisations can reduce the cost of managing and maintaining software, manage desktop transformation more efficiently and make more informed decisions about new IT investments, strategies and IT sourcing methods. New features in Centrix WorkSpace iQ 5.2 include:

•Windows 7 Migration Assessment Reporting – organisations can reduce compatibility issues by up to 90% by determining upfront what is required to migrate users or groups and where to focus application remediation efforts. Reports also determine hardware compatibility to run Windows 7.

•Management Dashboard – organisations can obtain a high level view of metrics about hardware, software, and users and can continually track the operational efficiency of the end-user computing infrastructure. The Management Dashboard also allows the ability to slice and dice data to cover a whole company, departments, groups or individuals and to drill down into the details behind the summary views.

•User Profile Reports – provides a complete assessment of personal settings and environment variables for each user so that IT can migrate the appropriate startup application settings based on individual requirements. Organisations can also import user attributes from Active Directory and HR systems to enable better user grouping and support the alignment of IT services with enterprise processes and workflows.

•Resource Consumption Intensity Reporting – analyses the resource consumption profile and intensity for every application session, so that IT can define intense, standard and light resource users and plan their transformation projects with these in mind.

•User Experience Impact Report – quantifies peak logon loads for groups of users so that IT can plan effective I/O requirements in particular for virtual desktop environments to accommodate peak loads such as boot storms.

To enable organisations to benefit from WorkSpace iQ without the need for on-premise infrastructure, WorkSpace iQ is now available as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering. Leveraging the Microsoft Azure platform, the SaaS version of WorkSpace iQ provides secure encrypted and protected data capture, delivery and storage as a subscription service. WorkSpace iQ will continue to be available as an on-premise solution option.

“Organisations planning desktop migrations often have little knowledge about their users' requirements, significantly increasing risk of business disruption or project failure,” said Michael Silver, VP Distinguished Analyst at Gartner. “Better intelligence is critical to ensuring migrations advance user and business needs rather than interfering with them.”

“By knowing more about the dynamics of their end-user computing environments and how IT assets are actually being used, desktop and application teams are able to make more accurate, more informed business and technology decisions about applications and desktop change,” said Richard Pegden, Director of Product Marketing at Centrix Software. “By taking a user-centric approach to desktop transformation with WorkSpace iQ, organisations can ensure faster business return from new technology investments while optimising their environments for cost savings and greater business efficiency.”
