Already a leading supplier of fabricated precious metals in the US and Europe, Cookson Precious Metals has now launched a brand new recycled gold product, Ecogold.
Ecogold is made of 100% recycled gold, making it an environmentally-friendly alternative for the precious metal and jewellery industries.
Ecogold has been launched in response to increasing calls for recycled precious metals from jewellery consumers. It is a clean, green and eco-friendly alternative to traditional mined gold.
The new website, www.cookson-ecogold.com, is packed with information, videos and news about this recycled gold product.
It is made from scrap gold from the jewellery, giftware, medical and electronic industries, with none of the associated human or environmental problems that can sometimes be associated with mining, extraction and production.
The creation process is fully audited and traceable, so buyers can track exactly where the materials came from, and Cookson has made a significant six-figure investment in the recycling line at its SEMPSA JP site in Spain, to ensure that Ecogold remains segregated and contamination-free.
On arrival at the plant, scrap gold is melted into flakes and refined into fine gold to remove any impurities. The newly-recycled fine gold is then melted into bars and grain, to create the Ecogold product range. Throughout its audited recycling journey, the metal is rigorously segregated from any other forms of fine gold.
Ecogold is available in a range of product types, including grain, bars, sheet, wire, solder, tube and ring blanks.
Michael Donaldson, commercial director for Ecogold, explained:
“More than ever before, the planet is under threat from man-made activities. The exploitation of natural resources and eco-systems is creating potential problems that could take generations to resolve. Currently, within the many global debates raging about what should be done to address these problems, there is an increasingly vocal demand for ‘green gold’ -which is clean, green, recycled and eco-friendly.
“A new generation of socially-conscious jewellery consumers are demanding a greener alternative.
“Since 2008, we have been meeting with various organisations, groups and individuals to understand how Cookson, as a responsible market leader, can deliver a commercial strategy on what is most commonly referred to as ‘green gold’.
“From these discussions, and our growing awareness of the issues involved, we have developed a ‘Green Umbrella’ strategy. Under this umbrella, we aim to offer our customers viable and commercial choices, of which recycled gold is one of them - Ecogold is a recycled product that they can buy with 100% confidence.”
