ZBD Displays, the world leader in fully graphic epaper display systems, announces the appointment of Jörg Funder as Founder Member of its Advisory Board. Funder, who founded the Institute for International Retail and Distribution Management IIHD at the University of Worms in Germany will add considerable strategic value to the Board. He will initially focus on strategy development and provide support to develop business cases to bring the full benefit of ESL (electronic shelf labels) solutions to the retail industry.

Funder has extensive retail experience, having previously worked in senior roles for numerous general merchandise and mail order retailers. He has also acted as an advisor to C-Level executives at a number of tier one retailers in his roles at Accenture and Bain&Company. At Bain, he held a broad-reaching role within the Retail and Consumer Goods leadership team, where performance improvement was part of the group’s remit. Whilst at Accenture, he was involved in delivering performance improvement projects into retail and consumer goods companies across 7 European countries. This included a project with Metro involving electronic shelf labelling.

In addition, Funder has a strong academic background and has achieved a number of accolades including having been honoured as one of the Top 20 young leaders in Germany by Young Leaders Network, Atlantik Brücke e.V. He holds a PhD degree in General Management and Corporate Transformation from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland, which ranks amongst Europe’s most prestigious Business Schools. Jörg has conducted research and lectured at some of the world’s most well known universities including HSG Switzerland, Warsaw Business School, Rotman School of Management and Columbia University, NY. Funder currently heads the Retail Management Department at the University of Applied Sciences, Worms, where he works with the Senior Management teams of large retailers on large scale restructuring programs and maximises their operational performance.

Jörg is considered an authority on retailing and has contributed to various publications, TV & Radio commentaries and high profile speaking engagements.
