One year on, to mark this landmark anniversary, Partners (staff) invited customers to join them for a weekend of celebration, kicked off by an event for charities involved in the shop’s Community Matters scheme. Charities who benefitted from Community Matters since it launched were invited into the shop to receive their donation from John Lewis at home Swindon. The Great Western Hospital Maternity Wing were awarded £1,410 to refurbish a bereavement counselling room, Swindon Food Bank were given £840 to purchase vital equipment, and Swindon Living Options were given £750 to provide day trips for adults with physical disabilities. The next three charities to take part in the scheme also attended the event. Friends of Young Carers Swindon, Swindon Stroke Support Group, and Koalas, a playgroup for children with learning difficulties. Dominic Joyce, branch manager, John Lewis at home Swindon, said: “Since we opened our doors last October we’ve seen a great response from Swindon shoppers and the branch has gone from strength to strength. All the Partners will be delighted to celebrate a successful first year with the charities we have supported so far, which do such a fantastic job in the local community. Customer events were also held in the shop to celebrate its first anniversary. Events included: • Gift food tastings from a range of brands including Jelly Belly jelly beans, Lime Bay wine and John Lewis’s own panettone. • Supplier demonstrations from the experts at Miele, KitchenAid, Dyson and Magimix. The ‘at home’ concept has proved popular with customers in Swindon with sales particularly strong in audio and TV, large and small electricals and bed and bath linen. The retailer’s Click and Collect service, has also proved particularly successful with orders growing by an incredible 75% since opening. Womens fashion, iPad2 and coffee machines are among the most popular items for customers using the service.
