Network Rail becomes a patron of homelessness charity CRASH Wednesday 16 November 2011 PDF Print Network Rail becomes a patron of homelessness charity CRASH "Network Rail becomes a patron of homelessness charity CRASH" Network Railhas become a CRASH patron partner, supporting the construction and property industry charity for homeless people that in turn has supported over 45 homelessness projects over the last year. CRASH is a practical charity that focuses on improving and constructing buildings used to help homeless people. The charity achieves this in three ways; awarding cash grants, providing professional advice and supplying free materials. “We want to build a productive and long relationship with CRASH, an organisation that supports Network Rail’s charitable giving objectives. The homelessness projects CRASH assist offer services to individuals throughout the UK from emergency housing needs, to health and well-being and education, employability and skills. We look forward to supporting homelessness projects that have a big impact on local communities and in addition we are also keen for some of our 36,000 employees and wider supply chain partners to volunteer and participate in the delivery of these projects in their local area.” Martin Arter, Chair of the Network Rail Charities Panel CRASH is delighted to welcome Network Rail to a group of companies in the construction and property sector who have pledged their ongoing commitment to CRASH through meeting increasing funding needs for the homeless, sharing their professional expertise and most importantly time. About CRASH: CRASH is unique. As an industry charity we encourage our patron partners to get directly involved in helping the projects who ask us for assistance. This practical approach delivers better standards of building by matching industry support exactly to the needs of a particular project. Sometimes a simple cash grant may be the solution but often the expertise of a willing professional seconded to the project to help ensure effective completion, is worth more than money alone. Similarly, supplies of much needed building materials, from bricks to flooring and internal finishes, can help achieve a better outcome for the building's owners and their end users. The industry’s goodwill and practical sharing of materials and skills means that much needed renovation and development can be carried out to a far higher standard than would otherwise be possible, providing a safe, sustainable and welcoming refuge for people in need. CRASH receives no government funding and is 100 per cent funded by the UK construction and property industry. Run by a team of only three full-time staff, this cost-effective way of running a charity has enabled CRASH to help over 45 projects across the UK in the last year.
