System Administrator and Network Manager Positions Prove Most Difficult to Fill
Lexington, Mass ─ November 22, 2011 ─ Ipswitch Inc.’s Network Management Division, developer of the WhatsUp Gold suite of innovative IT management solutions, today released the results of a survey of over 300 companies that asked what IT positions are the most difficult to find talent for. The survey found that System Administrators were the most difficult to find (27.9%) with Network Managers in second place (22.7%). Telecommunications Manager was the easiest role to fill, with only 7.1% of respondents citing they were having problem finding applicable talent.
The survey highlights the difficulty of finding new IT talent specifically in the vital network support roles. System Administrators and Network Managers are paramount to mitigate network downtime and take remedial action in time to prevent loss of availability and ensure business continuity.
Ipswitch Network Management Division is a strong supporter of the annual System Administrator Appreciation Day which aims to thank them for their workplace contributions and to promote professional excellence. Each year, Ipswitch awards a prize to a SysAdmin All-Star, (this year’s winner was James Attanasio from FPS Social Security in Belgium.)
The complete results to the question “What IT positions are the most difficult to find talent for today?” were:
• System Administrator – 27.9%
• Network Manager – 22.7%
• IT Manager – 17.2%
• Software Developer – 14.6%
• Program Analyst – 10.4%
• Telecommunications Manager – 7.1%
“System Administrators and Network Managers are often the unsung heroes of IT. In many cases, especially among SMEs, the network is the business. After all, the network enables collaboration, communication, and commerce – everything that helps an organisation to run and grow,” says Ipswitch, Inc.’s Chief Information Officer, Azmi Jafarey. “It is paramount that organisations invest more in training and skills development to ensure that System Administrators and Network Managers have the expertise to transfer to new recruits.”
