Welsh-born brothers Charles and Edmund Inkin, who own The Felin Fach Griffin near Brecon and Hay-on-Wye through their company, EATDRINKSLEEP, were delighted to hear the Felin Fach Griffin has been named Dining Pub of the Year for Wales in the new 2012 edition of the Good Pub Guide. This is the second consecutive year The Griffin has received this award, so why not get yourself down there during your UK short break in Wales.
On the same day, The Griffin received its first Bib Gourmand award, from the 2012 Michelin Guide, one of only three to be awarded this year in Wales and the only one outside of Cardiff. The Bib Gourmand is a much coveted award for restaurants that the guide deems as providing good food at sensible prices. So that’s two good reasons to visit during your UK short break.
The Griffin’s kitchen is now headed by Ross Bruce, whose passion for sustainable practices has become the inspiration for the restaurant’s output: “I am really excited that I have the chance to make the things that motivate me the things that determine the road that we take day in day out. Freshly baked bread, vegetables picked just fifty paces away in our Kitchen Garden, pigs and lambs from the hillside that overlooks us. Food in keeping with a slower way of life, this is just what The Griffin is about.”
The guide says of the Felin Fach Griffin, in the Brecon Beacons National Park: “A tremendously good all rounder, this friendly, accomplished dining pub pays close attention to getting every aspect of its business just right, and looks after its guests extremely well. They stock a terrific range of drinks, serve great carefully sourced food, care about the children and dogs that visit them and set a relaxed atmosphere; this is a lovely place to stay - nothing is missed.”
