London - Digital Shoreditch is the festival celebrating the outstanding creative, technical and entrepreneurial talent of East London and Tech City. The festival will run from May 21st to June 2nd 2012 and will be highlighting the thriving digital and tech talent from Clerkenwell to Stratford, Old Street to Bethnal Green and Dalston to the City and beyond.
Our collective ambition for 2012 is to deliver London’s greatest digital and creative tech festival ever. Our vision is to be as significant as South By South West within four years and be recognised as one of the world’s premier events for showcasing the most talented companies and individuals.
Our founding partners for 2012 are local companies and organisations including : Unruly, Sports Interactive, Taylor Wessing, Hackney Council, PlayGen and Queen Mary, University of London.
Councillor Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games said "The London Borough of Hackney is a key delivery agent for the Tech City initiative and is supporting the Digital Shoreditch Festival as part of the Borough's commitment to enabling business-led growth and innovation within Hackney’s creative economy."
Digital Shoreditch’s inaugural festival in 2011 attracted contributions from 180 companies, where 2,000 people attended 50 events in the first week of May. We are planning to showcase 500 companies and individuals for a phenomenal celebration of our capabilities, attended by over 50,000 people in 2012.
Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive said “We’ve been on the doorstep of the digital roundabout since it was just, well, a normal roundabout, and over the years have seen so many tech and digital focused companies moving to the area. We’re delighted to be able to support Digital Shoreditch in what is our 20th year as a games studio so that we can learn, teach, admire and get to know lots of the people in the area doing great things with technology, and meeting those people from afar who will come into the area to attend the plethora of events that will be happening.”
The 14-day programme for 2012 will include talks, educational workshops, open studios, exhibitions, family days, awards and parties that will engage, inspire and celebrate the cream of the digital crop. There will be something for everyone, from the tech-head to the merely curious.
Simon Walker, Partner at Taylor Wessing said "We are delighted to partner Digital Shoreditch and to continue our support of growing, ambitious companies in the community. We recognise these companies as key drivers for the UK economy and the 2012 Festival will offer them great encouragement, bringing in investors, collaborators and experts to help them realise their potential."
Sarah Wood, co-founder at Unruly said "Unruly is delighted to be supporting Digital Shoreditch as founding partners for 2012. This vibrant festival is an integral part of the London start-up ecosystem, a celebration of London's entrepreneurial diversity, and a focal point for discussing London's business strategy. It's also a lot of fun!"
