Installations Now Exceed 20,000 UK Passenger Transport Vehicles

London, UK– December 19th, 2011 — GreenRoad, the leader in driver performance and safety management, today announced a number of customer wins in the passenger transport segment with recent signings for 240 drivers using 110 buses at Network Warrington, 200 drivers using 103 buses at Rossendale Transport, 99 buses at D&G Bus, 90 vehicles with 170  drivers at Newport Transport, 34 drivers and 27 coaches at Dews Coaches and 75 buses at Stephensons of Essex. With these latest wins, nearly 1,000 additional drivers are now aiming to be ‘green’ with enhanced driving that cuts fuel consumption and delivers the best drivers on the road.

More than 20,000 buses and coaches on UK roads are now using GreenRoad’s service, driven by over 50,000 drivers and covering more than 800 million miles each year. A number of these customers were signed at the recent Coach & Bus Live at Birmingham NEC and nearly all the executives at these customers are members of Album, the Association of Local Bus Company Managers, an industry body that represents the views of bus operators.

GreenRoad is designed to dramatically reduce crash incidents and maximise fuel consumption by enhancing driver performance while behind the wheel.  Through improving driver performance and safety management, GreenRoad immediately transforms driving culture, delivering the best drivers on the road.

These bus and coach operators selected GreenRoad to reduce crashes, increase their mileage per gallon and enhance passenger comfort. A typical GreenRoad customer sees up to a 10% reduction in fuel-consumption and emissions as well as a 50% reduction in accident frequency and resulting costs including reduced insurance premiums and vehicle wear-and-tear.

“We are continuously evaluating new ways keep our drivers and passengers safe. We chose GreenRoad as it has been widely adopted across the bus sector and is proven to cut risk significantly,” said Matthew Parkes, financial director at Rossendale Transport. “By encouraging our team of professional drivers to take responsibility for their driving behaviour we are expecting to enhance passenger comfort and reduce operating costs.”

A century old, Newport Transport is the city's main bus operator. It runs more than 40 services throughout Newport as well as to and from Cardiff, Cwmbran, Monmouth and Chepstow and helping more than 8m customers every year get to their destination.

Newport Transport invests nearly £1.2m every year in new vehicles and takes pride in its fleet of more than 90 buses ensuring they are cleaned and checked every morning. Now its team of 170 bus drivers will benefit from using GreenRoad. Furthermore, Newport Transport has been advertising for a Green Champion to spearhead its safety initiative and educate drivers about the benefits of the system.

“This investment recognises the high level of skill and professionalism necessary to be a good bus driver. We have one of the best groups of bus drivers in Wales and the adoption of GreenRoad will enable us to continue developing and improving their skills,” said Scott Pearson, managing director at Newport Transport. “With support for positive driving, our bus drivers will gain the recognition and praise they deserve for doing their jobs well. And in circumstances where a driver falls short of this level, GreenRoad provides online support and recommendations on how to improve.”

Two of these new customers, Stephensons of Essex and Dews Coaches, signed up for GreenRoad in partnership with Belmont International, the UK’s leading independent insurance broker specialising in passenger transport. Belmont will benefit from access to detailed driving information, making it far easier to predict fleet risk and offer specific risk management interventions. When it comes to renewing insurance policies, this will help Belmont and its clients negotiate improved insurance premiums and cover terms with insurers.

GreenRoad provides the most effective, proactive approach to smarter and safer driving. Because driving decisions are responsible for 90% of all accidents and up to 33% of fuel spend, the only way to truly reduce risk and improve efficiency is by focusing on driver decision-making.

GreenRoad provides drivers and fleet managers with real-time, comprehensive feedback, online reporting, analysis and coaching on their abilities, manoeuvres and patterns. As a result, GreenRoad positively impacts both conscious and unconscious driving behaviour – the key to creating more fuel-efficient and safer drivers.
