The BBC's flagship science programme, Tomorrow's World, has tested a new solution for
telephone banking from Vocalis, the international speech technology Group.

Viewers tuning in to BBC1 at 7.00pm tonight (Wednesday) will see the show's host Peter Snow
putting the solution through its paces. Using a technique called Speaker Verification, it
enables a bank or building society to determine if a caller is the genuine account holder. It
eliminates the need for account holders to remember passwords such as a memorable date or
address and makes it almost impossible for the potential fraudster.

Cambridge-based Vocalis is already leading the field in Speaker Verification and its
technology is now the subject of the first ever customer trials, the results of which will be
available in the Autumn.
