Historic British Brands Prepare to Commemorate Titanic Centenary
At this year’s Spring Fair exhibition, Arthur Price of England and Royal Crown Derby prepare for the 100th anniversary of RMS Titanic’s fateful maiden voyage with an exhibit of 1912 artefacts and the launch of an online auction site for a collection of exceptionally rare collectors pieces.
The most famous ship ever built was a national showcase for the very best of British engineering, craftsmanship and design. Arthur Price of England and Royal Crown Derby were two luxury British brands selected to provide the cutlery and china for the 1st class accommodation. Both companies have produced recreations of their stunning designs used onboard the ship to mark the anniversary.
The interest and intrigue that surrounds the Titanic story continues to grow and April 2012 will undoubtedly see the climax of Titanimania. In the build up to the anniversary Arthur Price and Royal Crown Derby have created an online auction site www.titaniccentenaryuk.com. For anyone with an interest in the legendary luxury liner, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity not to be missed as there are some truly spectacular pieces of memorabilia available including ‘Return to the wreck’ items.
Specialist travel company, Deep Ocean Expeditions, is making a series of centenary dives to the wreck site. During these extraordinary voyages, if conditions allow, a limited edition of Arthur Price of England ‘Panel Reed’ cutlery canteens and Royal Crown Derby tableware will be taken 12,500 feet below the surface inside a deep sea diving submersible to the Titanic wreck. These pieces will then rise from the depths to be auctioned by sealed bids online. The closing date for bids will be midnight 16th April.
The online auction will also feature other Titanic related memorabilia including an original Daily Sketch newspaper as well as a selection of silver antiques all hallmarked in the year 1912.
The exhibition on Arthur Price’s stand at this year’s Spring Fair exhibition at the NEC includes:
- Original Pattern Book supplied to White Star Line
- Paper work, order forms and marketing booklet from 1911
- Daily Sketch Newspaper reporting the Titanic’s sinking 16th April 1912
- Letter and image from the deep sea Titanic wreck site expeditions
- Signed photograph and engraved spoon from the late Millvina Dean, the
youngest and last survivor from the disaster
