Etisalat and its messaging services partner Telsis are today celebrating the shortlisting of their joint entry in the 2012 GSMA Global Mobile Awards.

Etisalat Nigeria’s DotMe instant noticeboard service, running on the Telsis Just Dot Me platform, has been shortlisted by the GSMA as a nominee for this year’s Best Network Product or Solution for Serving Customers.

The winner will be announced on 28 February at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Michael O’Hara, chief marketing officer, GSMA, said that there had been a record 600 entries for all the 30 award categories, reflecting the intensity of competition and innovation across the mobile ecosystem. “It is a significant achievement to have made the shortlist, and our warmest congratulations go to all the nominees announced today. We look forward to the unveiling of the winners at the Mobile World Congress next month.”

Telsis Just Dot Me, launched in Nigeria by Etisalat in September last year as Etisalat DotMe, is the world’s first instant noticeboard service accessible to all mobile phone users, whatever type and age of handset they have.

Etisalat customers post their information by simply texting it to the SMS shortcode 8900. Anyone, anywhere can then access this information by simply texting a dot (a full stop) to the Etisalat customer’s mobile phone number. The Telsis platform then automatically replies to the dot message with the posted information.

DotMe requires no activation, registration, application download, special handset features, web access or knowledge of usernames, and works on all types of handset.

The key attribute of the service is that an individual can post information that is then easily accessible by others (dotters) sending a dot to the individual’s mobile phone number. This makes the service highly valuable to posters, who can be certain that their information is immediately accessible to anybody that wants it, and makes it easy for people (dotters) to get the information they want. This frees up time for the poster and makes life more efficient for the dotter.

The inventor of the service, Telsis founder and chairman Jeff Wilson, said “Our technology has provided a new form of communication, simple and ubiquitous, with high utility. We are delighted that Etisalat DotMe has received this recognition from the GSMA.”

Speaking on the nomination, Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Steven Evans explained that the partnership with Telsis which led to the development of DotMe is in line with the company’s strategy which is aimed at providing customers with innovative and quality services. He said, “Etisalat celebrates the nomination of DotMe as Best Network Product or Solution for Serving Customers especially when one considers the number of entries sent in. Etisalat will continue to excite its subscribers with innovative products and welcome fruitful partnerships as enjoyed with Telsis.”
