Contemporary and traditional Welsh cultural events are taking place in St Davids on March 1st, ranging from an iconic cathedral and rugby players to cawl tasting and traditional Welsh singing and dancing. So why not take a UK short break to Wales on it’s most important day of the year?
Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre, St David’s Cathedral and St David’s City Council are holding a selection of celebratory events for all ages that is guaranteed to inspire anyone planning a visit on St David’s Day.

National Park Authority Chairman Cllr Tony Brinsden said: “We are delighted to be hosting and linking in with events on March 1st in St Davids itself and I very much look forward to joining with the ‘hwyl’ of the celebrations on what is sure to be a memorable day.”

A St David’s Day procession to the Cathedral will begin at Oriel y Parc at 11.50am and stop in the city at Cross Square for a Bishop’s blessing. This will be followed by a blessing of the recently restored St David’s Shrine in the Cathedral. For more information about the service call 01437 720202.

Alternatively, at 12 noon there will be a unique opportunity to see the sunlight shining through the St David’s Stone in the courtyard at Oriel y Parc, which is owned and managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. March 1st is the only day of the year to view this spectacular sight.

Visitors on their UK short break will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite cawl recipe in the Cawl Cooking Competition taking place in St Davids City Hall from 12 noon. The café at Oriel y Parc be entering the competition and offering homemade cawl throughout the week of celebrations.
For the first time this year, Oriel y Parc is working with Menter Iaith Sir Benfro to offer an outdoor Welsh themed event in the courtyard from 1.30pm to 5pm.

Highlights will include Welsh storytelling for children (Twf yn y Tŵr), arts and crafts with Merched y Wawr, and appearances from Sali Mali and Mistar Urdd.
