Messy dental impressions can be a thing of the past at UltraSmile* Dentistry, in London’s Limehouse, http://www.ultrasmile.co.uk, with the introduction of the ITero Digital Scanner. It is also now possible to have a permanent ‘Cloud’ base record of your teeth for future use.

Until now, dentists have relied on impressions made with a silicone compound that solidifies around the teeth. Many patients do not like this procedure because it can create an unpleasant taste in the mouth and cause gagging. In some cases the silicone impression of the patient’s teeth may be a source of errors: saliva and swallowing movements and the removal of the solidified silicone can make the impression less precise.

Precise impressions are important for the quality of the restoration. Additionally, precise impressions save time. With the ITero scanner, there is very little need to retake impressions or remake restorations. The dentist is able to check the digital scan immediately - the computer clearly shows any area that needs improvement so that the preparation or scan can be corrected. Patients have the option of viewing the virtual model on the screen.

The benefits for the patients are:
1. Comfortable: Impression taking without any mould material – no gagging, no bad taste in the mouth
2. Precise: Important for high quality restorations
3. Efficient: Intraoral scanning means low risk of additional treatment appointments.

UltraSmile* Dentistry, whose clients include Karren Brady, Kimberley Walsh, Angela Griffin and Grand National Winner 2009, Liam Treadwell, is keen to encourage clients to take advantage of this latest technology, as it not only offers a more comfortable experience and unmatched precision but because of the ‘Cloud’ technology images can be stored so that if future work is needed, perhaps as the result of a dental accident where teeth get broken, an accurate stored digital image can be used to help restore teeth to their former position.

With a price of £195 for a full mouth Scan UltraSmile* Dentistry clients can be assured the practice is taking every step to ensure perfection!
