SENIOR MOVES – THE ANSWER TO DOWNSIZING DILEMMAS

MARCH 2012: Moving home is one of the most stressful experiences in life but for the elderly it can be overwhelming and traumatic; the launch of Senior Moves promises to make the process easier for all concerned.
Founded by Berkshire based Amanda Fyfe, Senior Moves specialises in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects involved in downsizing from the family home and relocating to a new property and even a new area. The service is available in the South East and London, with plans for expansion over the next 12 months.

Amanda understands this can be a daunting and emotionally charged experience, involving a long walk down memory lane and parting with much-loved possessions and a lifetime of memories. She hopes her service will turn this into an exciting journey that marks a new start rather than a stressful one that mourns the loss of the past.

The Senior Moves service includes assistance with finding a new home; sorting, planning, and preparing for the move; developing a floor plan for the new property; hiring removers; packing and unpacking; resettling in the new home; and arranging for the sale of unneeded items.
Amanda said; ‘We all know moving house is hard work but even the idea of it can be too much for many elderly people. My experience of moving my own family made me understand the stress and time involved and Senior Moves was born as a result of that period of my life. We work with the whole family, taking it one step at a time to ensure everyone is happy with the decisions being made and that the move is seen as a positive new chapter for the family”.

She added, “Many elderly people have often lived in their homes for a very long time, and even raised their families there. Feelings of sadness, guilt, worry and stress are all common during this time and when these feelings are shared by the whole family it can be helpful to turn to a third party for some additional support which is what Senior Moves is all about.”

One happy client said; "I just couldn’t have made this move without you. My new home looks lovely, and although I will always miss my old house, I know this is where I need to be for the future. Thank you".

Another added; “Thank you for your support. I really didn’t think we would get my father moved. It is such a relief to know he will be close by."
