By transforming our current IT infrastructure, we will become the first cloud-enabled exhibitions and events service provider
UK’s first cloud-powered events services
London, 21st March, 2012 – Star, a provider of on-demand cloud computing and communication services to UK businesses, today announced a collaboration with leading exhibition and events services company, Melville Exhibition and Event Services. Over the next six months, the two companies will work together to transform internal and customer-facing services, as Melville becomes the first UK events and exhibitions service provider to offer fully cloud-based services.
Melville is the UK’s leading turnkey exhibition and event supplier, servicing many well known shows, including the Clothes Show Live and the International Motor Show. In collaboration with Star, Melville will offer a full spectrum of services over a secure cloud platform, including stand design and build, electrical installations, theatrical lighting, graphic services, logistics, furniture hire, data and registration.
Glenn Batty, Melville CIO, chose Star to execute his vision of becoming a fully cloud-enabled provider and his plans, already under way, are set to overhaul the exhibition industry. Star’s advanced communication service was a key driver in Melville’s decision to choose the company as a partner. Star’s cloud infrastructure also means Melville can provide a high-quality user experience wherever its employees or customers are in the world.
Commenting on his plans Batty noted, “Our business is defined by our company vision, planning and executing customer requests right first time and on time. Melville prides itself on providing operational excellence to our customers and wanted to partner with a cloud provider with the same values. By transforming our current IT infrastructure, we will become the first cloud-enabled exhibitions and events service provider, which will enhance our user and visitor experience, smoothing the path to growth. We deliver a quality service and must have a quality partner to support us. We took our time, did our due diligence and are confident we chose well in Star.”
Those future plans include offering exhibition registration via the cloud. With some of the larger exhibitions requiring over 100,000 registrants, Melville's existing IT infrastructure was strained. Through cloud computing, Melville will be able to scale up or down, offer seamless registration and ticketing as well as provide greater data feedback to its clients.
Paul Watson, interim CEO of Star, commented on the partnership, “Glenn approached Star with a vision, he wanted Melville to be the first to provide a fully enabled cloud service for the events and exhibition industry in the UK. It is his vision which Star recognises within our own company - to harness technology to drive business value and growth by providing a high-quality user experience, underpinning success and driving increased value from IT.”
Melville is now providing an e-commerce service to customers, who are able to order anything they may need to set up exhibition space straight from the site. Batty concludes, “This ‘one stop shop’ approach is the future of the industry. Cloud enables transformation to happen quickly.”
