After the amazing support we saw from risk professionals to our original survey, it was clear that it would be valuable to run follow-up research

Active Risk, developer of Active Risk Manager (ARM), the award winning Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) software, has launched a global survey into what makes a great risk career. This follows the success of Active Risk’s previous research into the personality traits of great risk managers, which has become one of the most extensive studies into the profession to date, with 800 responses from risk professionals around the world.

The new ‘What Makes a Great Risk Career?’ survey looks at why risk managers enter the profession, their educational background and previous work experience. The research also investigates whether risk professionals are being supported by their organizations with formal training programs and clear career paths.

Peter Robertshaw, SVP, Corporate Communications at Active Risk commented, “After the amazing support we saw from risk professionals to our original survey, it was clear that it would be valuable to run follow-up research to gain further insights into the realities of today’s risk management careers. Recent reports from the Harvard Business Review and Ernst & Young have shown that effective enterprise risk management is increasingly important to senior management and can add significant value to the bottom line, but there has been little focus on the people who have to deliver on the promise.”

Robertshaw continued, “Our original survey found that many of today’s risk managers are feeling highly pressured in their jobs. Analysis showed that 20% of risk professionals are facing major stress, when just 2% of sales professionals fell into this category in a comparative study. Clearly organizations need to focus on the career and training needs of their risk professionals if they want to retain and develop teams that can make corporate risk initiatives effective at improving profitability and performance.”

Risk professionals are invited to take part in the research. Visit www.activerisk.com/career-survey.
