Attaining this award shows Portal’s professionalism and commitment to workplace safety and employee wellbeing

Birmingham, 29th May 2012, Portal, leaders in delivering innovative space and infrastructure solutions has won an ‘International Safety Award 2012’ from the British Safety Council for its commitment to workplace health and safety at its facility at Sherwood Park, Nottingham.

The International Safety Awards scheme promotes high levels of health and safety management practice for industry, to prevent workplace injury and ill health, and the award winners have demonstrated to the judges their commitment and determination to prevent workplace injuries and work-related ill health.

Commenting on the award win, Managing Director at Portal, John Gotley said “Portal operates in an industry where high standards of workplace health and safety are critical for its success. Presented at the British Safety Council’s awards banquet at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on Friday 18 May 12, the awards were given to a variety of organisations from across the United Kingdom, Middle East and India.

Announcing the results, Alex Botha, chief executive of the British Safety Council, said, “We send our warmest congratulations to all 550 winners. Over the last year I have had the opportunity to meet with the managers and employees of a number of the winning organisations and have been struck by the commitment and dedication they have shown to managing health safety in a proportionate, sensible and effective manner.

“What the winners have demonstrated is that well-managed health and safety ensures the safety and wellbeing of their employees, contributes to business effectiveness and success. The health and safety of employees is non-negotiable and the winners have shown their determination, like us, to ensure that no one is killed, injured or made ill by work activities.”
